I've been using my 8300 for the past couple weeks as an MP3 player, and other than the hassle of having to remove the card from the phone to load songs onto it, I'm happy-ish.
One problem that I'm having is creating playlists. While I did get the "music kit" from Verizon, I have not used the included windoze music player at all (just been loading the card via the card reader directly).
I tried to create playlists with WinAmp, and it creates a .m3u file that seems to be a playlist, but the phone does not recognize it. I tried putting the .m3u file in the my_music folder of the card, in the root directory of the card, and even my_music folder of the phone (via BitPim) and nothing worked.
I then wised up and created a playlist with the phone. This is a PITA, but it did work. I also noticed that this phone-created playlist shows up in the my_music folder of the phone as a .vpl file. Of course, in their wisdom, Verizon seems to have disabled my access to that file. I can't copy it, save it off the phone, or even view it.
So. does anyone know how I can create playlists with out stooping to using the windoze media player that was included with the music kit?
Thanks in advance for your help --Bill

Don't have to remove card to add songs. Use Bitpim to add songs and the mobil cable. Takes longer than loading the card, but it does work. Open Bitpim, select media and than mp3. Select add using the note+ sign at top of page. It will say "add Ringer". Go to your music files, select a mp3 file and add it. Bitpim will do some conversion and than add the tune to mp3 folder. Send info to phone. When send info selection menu opens, just select ringers to send to phone. There will be no place to select mp3s to send. Send it to phone and close Bitpim out. Open phone. Go to play music. Scroll for your song. Play it. Click on options and look for Revitalize libary. Click do it. Song will be added to phone songs with all options available. Prior to revitalization, you will not have all options for that song available. Long way to do it, but it works.

Thanks for that topster.
What I was really trying to get at tho, was is it possible to created playlists (of songs that are already loaded on the card) for the phone to use without resorting to the Windoze Media Player or creating the playlists with the phone. Thus far, I think that the answer is "no".

Sorry I know of no way to create a playlist except by using the phone. The playlist would have to be in the correct file format and I have no idea what software may do that. There should be an easier way to do it but if you are using Verizon my guess is it would have to be software that supports the "Brew" platform. I agree it is a pain to create the playlist using the phone.

I figured I'd bump this thread, as I too am wondering how to make a playlist, WITHOUT using the phone. I've got a one gig card with over 300 songs on it (using MP3's @96kps, can't really tell the difference on my car stereo between those and actual CD)
Creating a playlist with the phone would take forever. Hoping someone's figured this out since the last post in March.
Also, a neat thing you may or may not already know:
Want to have a poor mans HANDS FREE set for your car, and play music too? If you have a 3.5 accessory port on your car stereo you can buy an adapter from Verizon which has a push to talk button. You can then plug in a regular male/male 3.5mm stereo cord to your phone and to your stereo. Now, listen to the music, call comes in, music goes quiet, push the "push to talk" button on the adapter, phone answers, you hear the caller in crystal clear stereo bliss, and the push to talk adapter has a built in microphone which works EXCELLENTLY so you just carry on with your conversation. Phone call ends, hit push to talk again to hang up, music resumes where it left off. Awesome.
