Ok, I read in a past thread here that T-Mobile will allow you to disable SMS *sending* but not receiving. I need to at least disable sending of text messaging from my son's phone. When I call T-Mobile, the agents claim that you can't disable either.
Anyone else had luck disabling text messaging on their T-Mobile account?
Thanks.

all you have to do is change the sms service center number in the phone, this will stop the ability to send an sms, but they truly cannot disable receiving them. in fact if they remove SMS from your account, you'll still get them but it will charge you the international rate for it.
but consider how valuable text messages are if your in danger and can't speak.

Thanks for the helpful hints, it looks like I'll have to move to another carrier who can disable SMS. I heard that Cingular can -- anyone know if that's true? My understanding is that they can disable all inbound text messaging except for advisory messages from Cingular itself.
The issue is, like so many other parents, I want to enable my son to have access to mobile communication without enabling some of the terrible SMS discussions that go on between teenagers. In short, SMS isn't needed and it often causes social problems amongst the younger crowds.

Heres what you do
you have to go into your message settings until you see a service center number
The number will be as follows +12063130004
play around with it and change it
then once u hit save your sons settings on the phone have been messed up and he will no longer be able to send out messages
the only way he can get this to work again is if he does a master reset another solution you can do is lock the messaging application and put a password on it with out telling him
this way he can not have access to it
