I have been with T-Mobile since when they were Aerial and then Voicestream, almost 10 years now. I have NEVER had any problems with them in regards to billing or anything else service related. Their customer service has always been very helpful and polite to me. I have changed my plans several times over the years and never got overcharged. I'm really surprised to read negative notes about T-Mobile, in my point of view T-Mobile is BY FAR the best cellular phone service available in the US.
I always recommend T-Mobile to all my friends because of all the positive experiences I've had with T-Mobile. And no, I never recommended them because I would get a $25 credit from T-Mobile, I never wanted one and never got one either. It is mostly important to me for my friends to have great service and a very good cellphone service provider.
I have heard horrible stories about Cingular, Verizon and Sprint in regards to their customer service. When I lived in North Carolina I had a second cellphone through Alltel - OMG, Alltel has to be the WORST of all of them, from day 1 I got overcharged, mobile to mobile wasn't added to my account and my first bill was over $400. It was a great day when my contract expired and didn't have to call them a million times every month LOL.

Jabby.a vast majority of customers on all cell phone providers have a positive experience. But of course all we hear about are the negative ones. Because, if you're satisfied, why in the world would you want to rant and rave and cry foul like what happens so often here.

I, too, have had a pretty good experience with T-Mobile (I've been with them for at least six years).
Even if I did have some trouble, I'd still want them to be successful, and here's why: They undercut the other carriers. T-Mobile exerts downward price pressure on the Cingulars and Verizons.
T-Mobile will actually let you unlock your phones and will do so before your contract is up.
Some carriers cripple their phones so you can't do things without paying the carrier. For example, I have never paid for a ringtone. I just transfer whatever I want from my own collection of music or sounds to my phone by bluetooth. It is my understanding that carriers such as Verizon won't let you do that.
If you have a prepaid account (I have both contract and prepaid), the T-Mobile costs are less than, say, Cingular.
I guess what is surprising is that T-Mobile isn't as restrictive or expensive as the other guys.
Note: There is a tradeoff, of course. T-Mobile's coverage can be iffy in comparison to another carrier. But it is getting better. And, with 850 roaming, it is a lot better than it was. Most of the time, I never notice it.
Also, they don't have 3G yet. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with that. It can't come too soon for me. I'd be ready to abandon my cable Internet connection and just connect via cell if a cell phone company can come up with speed that comes close to what I get with cable at a reasonable cost.

Their customer service is pretty bad, but that's to be expected. The instore service has been ok. Their coverage is OK, but generally T-Mobile has the least coverage of all carriers. Their prices are great though. I have prepaid.
