I've seen a lot of posts about enabling mp3 on the lg vx8300 by hitting menu 0000000 then selecting #11 Music Settings. When I try to do this on my phone, I get Not Available on the screen. What is missing, and does anyone know how to resolve this?

Nevermind, a google search found the page I needed. Here is an excerpt for those that don't want to read the 45 pages of the LONG post.
1. The bluetooth has connection issues with Firmware VERSION 1. It will disconnect on it's own, all the time. Upgrading to VERSION 3, helped, but it still disconnects on certain incoming calls, even if I was just on another call and hung up and it rang again within seconds. The Verizon tech guy refuses to admit any problems or do anything about it. I guess I have to live with it.
2. IF YOU UPGRADE TO THE FIRMWARE VERSION 3, YOU'RE MP3 PLAYER WILL NOT WORK. The graphic EQ will not work, the MP3 folder will be erased and you will no longer be able to use the media player to play. Instead, VERSION 3 uses .WMA files for playing. Just format the card IN THE PHONE and place any WMA music files in the "MY_MUSIC" folder. You can then use the front buttons and the My Music Player under the "GET IT NOW, GET TUNES AND TONES" menu. Again, the VERIZON tech guy denied that it ever played MP3's and said it must be in my head. Well, not exactly, but he did deny it would play MP3's. I asked him to open a new one without version 3 and he refused. Anyway, it will play WMA files fine.
3. IF YOU GET THE "NOT AVAILABLE" ERROR WHEN TRYING TO ENABLE THE MP3 PLAYER OR NO MP3 FOLDER WAS CREATED WHEN YOU TRY TO FORMAT THE CARD, CHECK YOUR FIRMWARE VERSION. MOST LIKELY YOU HAVE VERSION 3.

I have ver 3 and also about 75 mp3s on my 8300. They play with no problem. This is a new LG83000 purchased about 2 weeks ago. I have a mp3 folder on my MicroSD card where all my mp3s are kept. I found VCast Music Esstentials program and use that to put the mp3s on the phone. It synchs the phone and my music libary together. It lets me add mp3s to the Micro card. As for WMA files, don't know if they play because my MP3s play fine. I also can use the front buttons and music player under Get it Now.

Are you sure they are MP3's on the card? One of my techs has this phone as well and he bought the music essentials software. He said that it converts the mp3 to a wma while sending it to the phone. He said his the music essentials software is a plug in for windows media player.

I've got an 8300 with v3 of the firmware and it can play MP3s just fine.
While I did purchase the music essentials kit from verizon, I have never used it to load music onto the phone/card. I purchased a microSD card, put it in the phone, and "formatted" the card (this should create a "my music" folder on the card). I then removed the card from the phone, and used a card reader to load mp3 music files into the "my music" folder of the card from my computer. Note that the files need to all be in the "my music" folder. not subdirectories of the "my music" folder.
When I put the card back in the phone, it takes a minute or two for the phone to categorize all of the music files (I believe that it's going thru the headers of the mp3 files, and determining what you've got on there), but after than the VCAST player on the phone works just fine.

Hey that worked! However, I placed 5 mp3's on the phone and only 3 show up in the player. I checked the mp3's and none of the 5 I placed on the card are protected. Does anyone have any idea why the other 2 songs did not show up?
