I just got done surfing the internet for about 25 minutes. using a usb connection to my RAZR. I don't have a data plan but I dialed into my personal isp (sbcyahoo). Is this going to charge me by the kilobyte? If so. if I was connected at 12kbs a second. is it going to charge me by the second. or by the amount of date the sites I went to required? Thanks for you help.

No, because a BYTE is 8 BITS.but that doesn't apply in your case.
You'll be billed usage based on minutes of use.

And if you used it on Sunday it won't count at all.

Yea. I'm a little confused. what do bits and bytes have to do with anything here? If I use my phone to dial into my dial up service for my laptop. one is only charged the amount they would be to be talking on the phone? (free intenet on nights and weekends). Assuming that I'm using my own personal ISP and not Verizons?

Yes, if you dial in during off-peak, you're not getting billed. No issue.
Your initial question though, being connected at 12kbps, and being billed for data, was not in correct context.
You were connected at 12 kilo-BITS-per-second (jeez, I totaly can't imagine how you tolerate that) and were wondering about being billed per kilo-BYTE. You then asked if you were being charged every second.
I said, no because BITS and BYTES are different things. Surfing the web at a scorching 12kbps equals 1.5KBps, so even if you were being billed based on data, your measurement was off, that's all.
Having said all that, why not get a device you can use as a tethered modem, or PC Card, or USB Modem to use on VZWs Broadband service instead? 12kbps.even when I was surfing TELENET 15 years ago my speed was faster than that. ;-P

I'm on a Macbook, so a card's out of the question unfortunately. Since then I've set up a connection using bluetooth that runs 56kBs so I'm good to go now. Thanks for the help all, I was sweating bullets for a while there.
