I want to get a phone with Verizon. I've never had Verizon, and I haven't gotten a phone in years, so I'm catching up on all the info.
These are some features I'm looking for in a phone:
- Make my own ringtones (and not too painless transfer)
- Camera (2 mp would be nice, but I think that's not going to happen)
- Smallish or Thin (I only carry the phone in my pants pocket)
- Picture Caller ID on the external display
- Flip/Clam design prefered (slider acceptable too)
- MP3 player would be nice (but only if I can transfer over mp3's I already own)
- Bluetooth headset for calls (and music, mono is okay though)
- Outlook or iCal calendar syncing would be nice (but very optional)
I've mostly been looking at the LG vx8300, vx8600, and the KRZR. Will those do what I'm looking for? Anything else I should be looking at?
Thanks for your help.

(Edit) More info on my mp3 usage: I mostly wouldn't be listening to music, but actually recorded conference calls (about 100mb mp3's). So not having to convert them to a different format would be nice, and if possible, being able to fast forward to different points very fast.

Verizon's PN-820 Smartphone might fit your bill, especially from the Outlook perspective (it runs MS Mobile 5.0), it's a clamshell, camera (only 1.3MP), has a music player (WinMP 10), but it's not VCast capable, so you can only transfer files. MicroSD card, etc., etc. The only thing I didn't see was the ringtones option. I'm guessing no, since it's not equipped with "Get It Now".
Its form factor is pretty plain, looks easy to use. Sex-appeal (1-10) is about a 2 in my book. ;-P

The moto Q might also interest you, the Pro version is much better looking than the silver, and it runs Windows Mobile 5.0, but since mobile 6.0 came out recently, im guessing that it will be switching soon.
Sex appeal, 1-10 is a 7 i'd say, the blackjack would be a 10, but VZW doesnt carry it.
Ohh, BTW, if your planning on using it for internet AT ALL, make sure you get a data plan, since the very least usage will rack up your bill like you cannot believe, they charge you per kilobyte.

Thanks for the suggestions of the PN-820 and the Q. I had the Q on my maybe list early on, but I knew I'd be too tempted to get a data plan on it that I didn't really need. (and the smartphones cost more) I'll give them both a look though.
Is there a $15 a month data plan? Do they restrict your internet at all, or can you go anywhere? What kind of phone is necessary to download apps like the Google Maps one?

The $15 monthly internet access is for V-cast, which if for V-cast phones, and gives you unlimited video downloads and music and browsing, but cannot load HTML sites. The plan that you would want for a PDA/Smartphone/Blackberry, is the $59.99 per month Broadband access, which covers 250 cites, and uses EV-DO coverag with speeds up to 2.0MBPS but usually you get around 500-700 KBPS, which is still fast. I've also seen plans for $45.00 a month, but I dont think they are unlimited, and if you go over, its gonna cost you a fortune.
But, if you just want basic web capabilities, V-cast would do you well, for $15 a month. it utilizes EV-DO coverage when available, but can use 1Xrtt service as a backup, which will get you around 50-70 KBPS

I have the A930 but went back to my lg 8100. Not because of reception but because of the feel of the phone. Feels sort of like a toy. Never hear about bad reception with it, though.

I have the Samsung A930. Have had it since Aug 2006. Reception is good. I like all the features of the phone. But I am looking to replace it b/c the design of the phone is too bulky. If I have it clipped it hits against things.
I really want a thinner phone. I am looking at:
Samsung U740
Krzr
LG 8600
Was thinking about a smart phone, but I think the smart phones are going to be too bulky. I don't need all the applications, but would use it for the Qwery keypads for texting.
But the U740 has the Qwery keypad. Just don't like the front clock display on that phone. Don't know if it can be changed to digital clock or not.
