by the way, is there a particular type of phone that you guys would recommend that has a good battery life (even after a year or two), gets good reception, doesn't need a lot of repairs, etc? i'm definitely looking for the most bang for my buck, if you have any thoughts. thanks!

a good basic phone is the sanyo 7000 no camera or anything, another really nice phone is a sanyo 6600(Katana) kinda looks like a motorola razor but its better, Sanyo only makes phones for sprint specifically for sprints network, they're awesome phones, and if you like "toys" I personally have a an LG550 Fusic.looks like a little ipod but its full of goodies, 1.3Megapixel camera, camcorder, mp3 player, wireless FM transmitter built in to play your mp3 in your car or whatever with no wires, has a card slot so you can get a micro SD card and store pics and mp3s on it, internet, bluetooth yada yada yada i can't remember what else.everytime i pick it up i find something new to play with lol! here's a link http://us.lge.com/products/model/detail/mobile%20phones_select%20by%20 carrier_sprint_FUSIC.jhtml it has all the specs on it also there's the one for the katana too.http://www.sanyo.com/wireless/handsets/index.cfm?productID=1319 my brother has a katana and he loves it.again i like gadgets and goodies so these are my picks!

As a help with the signal on the 225, the antennae is in the top of the phone just above and behind the hinge , which is a natural place to hold a cell phone, try holding it the phone a little lower.
If your geographic location (housewise) is not good, an wireless external amplifier would help both you and your husands phone out, it may seem like a lot, but compared to having a landline as well could be an ideal option. If your house is in a bad location like a hole or something, other carriers may work just as poorly as your Sprint, so jumping the boat may cost you more in the long run.
