I am not a Verizon customer, but friends and family both are Verizon customers. One has a Motorola Razr V3 with iTunes, the other a Motorola V325i. Both phones have been intentionally set up so that they (my family & friend) are forced to buy Verizon's offerings in the way of multimedia, rather than (for instance) being able to transfer media through bluetooth or through Motorola's Mobile Phone Tools (MPT).
I have the know-how & experience to edit the phones so as to enable these features, but do not want to lead anyone into trouble with Verizon. It is my understanding that this is legal ( the relevant US Copyright Office document), but I don't know what Verizon has in its contracts with its customers.
If you're a customer service representative, it would be especially helpful, but anyone who might know the answer - or know who I could go to for the answer - is welcome to respond!
Respectfully,
Jacob M.

Jacob.all VZW says is that we do not support it. But if someone has the know-how and the ability it won't result in a disconnection of service or other things like that.

I just bought a Samsung SCH-u740. And in the "My Sounds" menu the "Set As" option does not exist, nor does "My Sounds" folder appear in the "Call Ringtone" menu. It is my understanding that in previous firmwares for other Samsung phones it did.
So I tried to trick the phone and sent an SMS message to myself with a midi file attached. When I opened the message the midi began to play. Then I clicked "Options" soft key and there was the option to "Save As Ringtone". I clicked it. It said the sound was saved, and was now set as ringtone.
However, it wasn't set as ringtone. I called the phone and the default ringtone was used. Then I checked the "My Sounds" folder and it was saved in the folder. So I have a ton of midis I had already formatted for use on my Nextel i560, which would only except the most primitive midi 0 formats. I can even play these midis from the "My Sounds" folder and yet in the "Options" menu, there is no option to set a sound as a ringtone.
Any suggestions?

With all due respect, I would first suggest that you start your own thread.
I posted this thread in the hopes of getting help with my own question. Its unfair to take over this thread for your own purposes and besides, folks who are qualified to answer your question will more likely answer your question if you post your own thread (which would be appropriately titled to your question).
Respectfully,

You know, honestly I don't think we monitor the different licensed/unlicensed transactions like transfers of music on the phones to know when to get involved or not---but if you called customer care they wouldn't help you with it as it's something we don't support. I wouldn't advise it, but I'm required to recommend that; if it were me and I knew the programming, I would go through with it. Just like the mp3 support on the LG 9800, it can be done, but CS will tell you otherwise.
