First of all thanks in advance.

O.K. Here goes - a black razr v3 with Cingular. No mods of any kind.
Suddenly- with no drops etc - the phones End (red key) on the key pad is the only one that works. When turning it on the unit immediately tries to dial speed dial #3.

When hooked up via USB and using Motorola Phone Tools I can access the phone functions -and even dial out. But when I disconnect I notice a hum like a key is being pressed non stop. (Perhaps the mysterious #3 key?)

Suggestions?
Software issue (hoping!)
Hardware issue (hope not but if so is it fixable?)

Just received this refurb unit a month a ago (Thanks Cingular-grrrrrr) to replace my old razr with had become unreadable with dust behind the screen- but at least it worked.

Appreciate any ones ideas!

If your phone is still under warranty get it replaced for dust behind the screen.
The new phone (prob a refurb) should be without your problems.

Just a thought. Hope it helps.

Hi I had the exact same problem with my phone it seems like the keypad was malfunction, but in the end I only had to flash the keypad flex file into the phone. I found this solution in a very good tech support here is the page - RAZR buttons don't work

I hope it will help you guys

well, here comes my reply one year later! hoping it helps someone in the future

my husband is having the same problem. and i think it has to do with the dust you mentioned. I was removing the white sticker and noticed a tiny layer of dust (kind of what you dryer filter gets!) anyways, i blew on the keyboard a couple of times, knocked it gently and it worked for a couple of days. now it's broken again and i'm planning on removing the keyboard (I'm positive this will fix it!)

Give the side buttons (volume and smart keys) a squeeze and a tap. They maybe depressed which can cause this problem. If that fails it may be you keyboard flex cable. You could try taking the back cover off, disconnecting the flex and scrubbing the port/socket with isopropyl alcohol.
