Motorola SLVR plays ringtones as text message sounds?

okay so all of a sudden tonight, anyone who i have set with a custom ringtone, everytime they send me a text message it plays that ringtone. its pretty frickin annoying!
how the hell did this happen and how to i change it back?

That's how it is. If you have a custom ringtone for a particular contact, then that ringtone is gonna play for text messages from that contact as well. Every Razr I've ever owned, including my new V3xx does it. Yes, it's annoying. And I don't think there's anything you can do about it. I'm anxious to hear if there is, but my hopes are not high.
I did discover a workround - but it can be equally irritating

I would be interested to hear this workaround. My V190 does the same thing. Text messages are supposed to be more "covert", but with that blasted ringtone song playing every time a message comes through, not very sneaky.
