I'm a newbie too, I did the flashing to E5, G1 ... with no problem. I think there are 2 possibilities.... You have the incorrect firmwares or you put in the wrong ranges.
This is the instruction I got from Don, moderator of this box:
-= Don =- wrote:
Settings:
Generic Tab
Comport Tab
Flash & Verify Tab
Read Tab

OPTIFLASH3.6

BACKING UP YOUR FIRMWARE (make sure your phone is off).
A. Unzipped these files to a folder. Open the optiflash.exe file and go to Options=>Settings=>Read. Clear all the information from the Read Range field and add the following:

0x00000000 - 0x00001fff
0x00004000 - 0x00ffffff

B. You can save the file to whatever name you want in the Save File field. The default name is C:\BACKUPSAVE.sre. Click OK

C. Go the Com Port tab and for the first Comp Port select the correct port that your datacable is connected to. For the second COM Port select none.

D: Go to the Generic tab and select Samsung SGH-V200 in the Specify Hardware Platform field and press OK and it should bring you back to the Optiflash - [Default] box.

E: Connect your phone to the datacable and click on the Read button. Then press the power button on your phone. *Note that your phone will not be on but the program should start backing up your rom.

F. After this is done you should get a message that says "Complete!!! / All is Well" in the log.

FLASHING YOUR FIRMWARE (make sure your phone is off).
A. Go to file (Open) and select the file you want to flash
B. Click the Flash Button.

That's as far as I can do... hope this will help

im afraid it has not worked, i have added the ranges in the read options, then when i press read it says power on mobile, i try and turn on the phone but nothing happens

E: Connect your phone to the datacable and click on the Read button. Then press the power button on your phone. *Note that your phone will not be on but the program should start backing up your rom.

[ It does not "start backing up your rom" ] . The battery is full and the SIM Card is out. I have tried a few firmware versions but no joy. ??

That may be the key problem... when you see "Power on mobile" you just press the power button for about less than a second... you won't see your phone turn up, the screen is black but the process of optiflash carries on.
Oh yes... DO THE FLASHING WITHOUT SIM INSIDE[/code]

ive just tried , and still, nothing, i attached the datacable tho before , and a blank white screen appeared.

What would happen if i have overwritten my backup somehow ? wouldn't adding a new firmware solve everything ? wat is the difference between flash and verify, which one should be using ?

Dunno what's "verify" for. "Read" is to backup your firmware...
When you flash to another firmware that's mean you've overwritten the former 1, that's not "adding" but replacing, that's why we need a backup .scr file. I suggest you should use G1 firmware (on http://samsungv200.mysite.freeserve.com/) that should work fine...
