the microSD cards have the same physical dimensions no matter how much storage capacity they have.

yes i understand that, that is obvious! But i was wondering what the phone is capable of handling (for example, i have an mp3 player, that can only have a maximum of a 1 gig card added, even though there are 2,3, and 4 gig cards) do you understand what im asking?

If you shop for phone accessories for the VX8600 on Verizon's website, it displays the 512MB, 1GB, and 2GB cards as being compatible (and for sale).
I'm pretty confident that 2GB is the limit, for the VX8600.
I think Verizon is pretty accurate on compatibilities, since they were right for my Samsung phone (1GB card limit, verified on the mfr's website also).

Check out SanDisk's website. Go to their MicroSD products page. At the bottom of that page is a very cool Compatibility tool, where you can enter your exact phone's make & model to see if it's compatible.

The actual answer to your question is 2GB according to the Sandisk site. See http://www.sandisk.com/Compatibility/Device(8399)-LG-VX8600.aspx
