I just got this phone a couple fo days ago and I absolutely love it. Great phone, very sleek and smooth. I purchased the 'Music Essentials Kit' through Verizon when I got the phone as well. So I have a program to convert audio files to be used on my phone and I have the USB cable to run from my computer to my phone.
I thought I was on my way to getting ringtones for my phone. However, you cannot save these files as ringtones, only as music which cannot be set as a ringtone. I talked to the people at my local Verizon store and they told me that there is a way to use these songs as ringtones (once you convert them and cut them) but that they don't really know how to and cannot convert it.
Can anyone please tell me how to get these songs onto my phone as ringtones? I would greatly appreciate any assistance.

you can get ring tones from 'get it now' but that is ridiculous. I am not paying $1.99 per ringtone. I paid 30 bucks for the music essentials kit, i better be able to get ringtones out of it.
I just need help in doing so.

is the Music Essentials software different than the SamsungPC Studio software? Seems to me it would be the same especially since I was using it with another Samsung phone before. I am checking to see if the Samsung PC studio has an update to work with the u740.

THIS WORKS! Cut down your mp3 to whatever size you want, then rename it to .mid
Then you can either email it to this phone (your number@vzwpix.com) or put it on your SD card or whatever. You can then save the attachment as a ringtone, sound etc. Works excellent.

Here is my (sort of) quick way around the buying from Verizon thing.
1. They must be converted to .mid files. There are programs that will do this for you.
2. Save them to your phone as Sounds. If you have an SD card there is a folder marked MY SOUNDS. Just drop the files in this folder. They then come up in your My Sounds menu.
3. You can then text them to yourself. no need to even go through Verizon's pic place. Just directly text them from your phone to your own phone number.
4. Sounds from text messages can be saved as ringtones, and there you go!

i just use bitpim and audacity to make mp3 ringtones, although this was with my LG VX8600 (i just recently switched to a U740). i would assume you can do the same for the U740 unless im missing something.

I got my sound clip onto my phone this way and it plays but it's in the sound folder so it will not let me set it as a ringtone. How do you get your sound clips/ringtones into the 'My Ringtones' folder on the phone which would enable me to use it as one?
That is on the samsung u740.
