Bought a Motorola V360 in April 2006 by August 2006 phone for $99 and signed up for 2 more years. Then started having problems with battery. Lived with it little inconvience. Now not getting signal anymore in my home. Went to the nearest Service Center, they replaced the SIM chip. Got home still no signal and lost all my contacts even after they transferred everything to the new SIM chip. Dealt with customer service via email do to no phone for a week. Finally decided on my own to put the new SIM in my old Nokia and viola I get a signal. Well now they believe its the phone (when I went to the service center to arrange the exchange the service rep informed me there have been problems with this model of Motorola)! icon_twisted.gif

The phone they are willing to give me in place of my Motorola costs $49 to buy and has fewer features than my V360. No slot of SD memory card only 2 IM's. I understand the exchange isn't even going to cost me for the shipping. But why are they replacing a $100 phone with a $49 phone with less features and asking me to like it. Seems like I'm getting taken for at least $50. Now if I want a phone that is exactly the same as the one I have I have pay another $60. icon_devil.gif

Anyone else had these kinds of problems? icon_question.gif

When my contract is up I'm switching to Verizon or Sprint! icon_sad.gif

(For direct answer to question: Anyone else had these kinds of problems? Please, skip to the BOLD print.)

Purchased two Sony Ericsson Z520a's, added two years to my contract of 6 months, and one additional person to our family plan, for a total of 3 lines.

The two Z520's were problematic from the start. Within 2 hours of purchasing, it was necessary to return one phone to the store for an exchange. A few days later the other Z520's incoming calls would sometimes go directly to voicemail, without ringing. It wasn't every call, but since we were moving in 2 days, to Southern California we wanted both phones to not have any problems. So back to the store for the second exchange. All was OK for a few months, then both phones started with NO NETWORK, or Searching, Searching, Searching, on the RARE occasion it actually let you dial a phone number, it would drop the call, every single time, 15 seconds to a couple of minutes, into the phone call.

Went to a Cingular store, and was told with out insurance, we couldn't exchange the phones. I shelled out the money for an LG CU500, and it has been very reliable, even driving in the canyon, or around a mountain, it's only dropped calls a few times.

The other family talk member, borrowed an old Cingular phone for a couple of weeks, until she had the funds to also buy another phone, then tossed her Z520a in the trash.

I just came back to Sacramento, and thought now that I'm not in the mountains, the phone would work. No, such luck. Checked Sony's website and updated the firmware, but still couldn't make calls.

Searching the Internet, a link directed me to this forum, then to Cingular's Forum and on both I read post after post, from people having the same exact problems with the Z520a that we had. It wasn't too long before a came across a post, giving the Warranty Exchange phone number,
1-800-801-1101I for Cingular.

After reading the criteria that must be met, I called the number. CS gave me various instructions, buttons to push, battery out, firmware version check etc. Then she said she was going to electronically send a "PUSH" to the phone and that might do the trick.

I was overjoyed when the display didn't read Searching,,.NO NETWORK. Ha, success! Then the phone beeped and I looked down to see "Insert Siam". Removing and reinserting the SIM card made no difference. Tried the SIM in an old Samsung E315 and it's working fine.

Which brings me to the whole point of this lengthy post. The very nice CS said, that due to the number of phones I'd already been through, I wouldn't be required to accept another Z520a. Instead she said I'll read off the models you can choose from. All of these phones are comparable to the Z520a. She started off with two Sony's and I declined before she had even given the model numbers. The third one was the Nokia 6102i, and I said yes, because I have had nothing but reliable Nokia phones and the thought of a Nokia that had the same things to offer that the SE did, thrilled me to no end. I couldn't ask for more in a cell phone.

Cs took the information to put the wheels in motion, and we hung up at 7:30 PM. I came back to Mobiledia, compared the broken Z520a to the Nokia 6102i and was sorely disappointed that the Nokia has just 1/4 of the memory & less than 1/2 the talk time, that the Z520a had. In addition the Nokia DOES NOT have the streaming multimedia and MP3 capabilities that the SE Z520a does.

I set my alarm for 4:00 AM, in order to call right when warranty exchange opened, in hopes of canceling the order. Then I was going to ask for all the choices available, list them, return to Mobiledia, run a comparison, run my top 2 or 3 choices through this forum, then call back with the chosen phone model.

I explained to the cs though I appreciated the time spent the night before and the friendly assistance I'd been given, I didn't feel the phone to be comparable to the SE and I would like to cancel the order till I could call back with an informed choice.

No Dice! The order was already being processed, out of there hands with absolutely no way for them to contact where processing takes place. I went back to Cingular's web site in search of contact information and found this: "If canceling service or exchanging equipment, you must contact the number on your invoice to process the cancellation or exchange." Quickly located the invoice and found that there isn't a phone number or any other contact information on the invoice.

I don't see the functions and size/duration of the two phones to be comparable. The fact that the Nokia may work and the SE's didn't, doesn't make them equal or near equal.

I'd like to hear what other's think and if the phones are comparable in their opinion.

Whew, venting really does make one feel better!
