so whenever i try and turn my phone (vx8300) it says "please use genuine battery" and shuts off. the phone is not water damaged. it has a little over 100 hrs of talk time on it. has anyone else had these problems? do you think it could just be a dead battery?
i had a water damaged phone before that gave me this message. i know this phone is not water damaged. thanks

I too have the same issue but with a 8100. The phone worked fine and I turned it off. When I restarted it, I get the Genuine Battery issue. I have 3 of these batteries and all 3 work fine in my 8300, so I know it's not the battery. I also know that the phone has never been wet(proven by the wet indicators on the phone and battery). Guess no -one else has had this issue yet since there haven't been any responses.

I have two LG VX 6100 phones with US Cellular. One of the two seems to be not holding a charge very well so I ordered two supposedly oem batteries from a online storefront (cables4pc) on pricegrabber. When the batteries arrived and I installed them I also got the error message "Use Genuine Battery" The new batteries wouldn't work in either phone. Can US Cellular lock up the battery on a phone too so you can't get a replacement except from them for an inflated price. They want $50.00 for the same battery I got for $5.45[/quote]

I'm having this problem with a VX3300. It's done this a couple of times before, but then recovered. Today it's not turning on at all, and I keep getting "use genuine battery".
Just for clarification, the wetness indicators should turn all red when the phone gets wet (or in a too-moist environment)? I have a patch on the battery with red Xs and a dot in the phone with red dots on white background.

With that much of a price difference, ya shoulda had a good idea that it's NOT OEM.
Common sense should tell ya that. You know the saying .
"If it seems too good to be true, it probably is" !

Sounds like the OEM battery has an internal sensor to check for water (damage). And the phone has software to check. If the battery lacks the sensor or actually has water damage, the phone lets you know.
Using a non-OEM battery shouldn't be a problem if you don't care about the protective circuitry the OEM battery comes with. If the non-OEM battery is advertised an an exact replacement for your original, then you have an issue with the seller - he cheated you, not the phone supplier.

I am getting this error as well. My phone did have some water damage, actually Gatorade, thanks kids. I bought a replacement battery at the local cell phone retailer, but I still get the error message. Is there anything I can do to fix this or am I just out of luck and need to bite the bullet and buy a new phone. Any help provided is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

What I've done in the past is use my friend's (with the same phone) battery. If it works, I purchased a new battery, if not I would have tried to replace the phone.

This happened to me with my VX6100. It only seemed to happen when the battery was run all the way down. If I plugged it in, it would keep trying to turn on to charge, get the error, then turn off again. I left it on the charger overnight and it worked the next day. Once the battery died, it threw the error again, but a night on the charger trying over and over worked again. Hope this helps.

I bought a LG Lithium Ion 3.7V 1000mAH battery online for my Verizon LG vx3200 and it has worked fine for about 6 mos. Now, suddenly its giving me the message "Use genuine battery" and turns off. Any ideas on how to get around this? Do I have to actually buy the battery at Verizon's inflated price? This seems creepily like Big Brother.
