I bought a RAZR (I think it's the v3) that had video recording and bluetooth enabled. I put in my SIM card and everything seemed fine. But, only a fraction of my dialed calls are successful (and I always have to put the area code in first. If I don't, the call ALWAYS fails), and I constantly lose service (on my screen there's a message that says "emergency calls only" or something to that effect).
Does anyone know how to solve this problem or know what is causing it?

Presumably you are in a good signal area?
If you are then I would check the antenna and would consider flashing latest firmware

I am in a good signal area; I have never had a problem like this with any other phone, including my old v3.
I am very new to the concept of flashing, and doing things like editing seems. So I have 2 questions. Is it a completely bad idea for an unexperienced person to do this (could I possibly ruin the phone if I make a mistake)? And, will I lose any of the enabled features, such as the video recording by doing this(whether it be correctly or incorrectly)?
Thanks so muh for replying to my post!

Flashing a reflash file you wouldn't lose any features. Its normally pretty safe as long as you fully charge the battery first.
To be honest its more likely the issue is hardware (antenna probably)

I didn't even know RAZRs had antennas. Must be some kind of internal one. If it IS a physical problem, I should probably bring it to my service provider.

I called my service provider and there's nowhere in this state that will even take a look at the antenna. They want me to spend $35 to mail it out to get someone to look at it. If that isn't the problem, it gets mailed right back AND I have to pay the person who took it apart $50/hour and keep my non-working phone. Methinks I'll be taking it apart myself (something I have done with my old one) and putting an antenna from my other RAZR in to see if it makes a difference.
Also, when I connect this phone to the computer with a USB cable, my computer cannot recognize it at all. I already have MPT and the drivers installed from when I used my old RAZR. It does not even give me the option of locating the drivers for it. This is all so frustrating! I also have P2KTools and P2KMan, and nothing can recognize my phone. Any suggestions?
