My wife's 2 year old V551 phone recently began experiencing poor antenna reception - my V551 will have 5 bars, her's 3; mine 3, her's 1, etc. I tried switching antennas - no difference for either phone. I opened her phone and closed the gap of the contanct points for the antenna - no difference. Does anyone know if such a problem can be corrected, or is it time for a new phone? (and any recommendations? Nokia better than Motorola for reception?)
Thanks!

I have the exact same situation: same phone (V551), just as old, just started having poor reception in areas where it used to have good reception.
At the same time my battery life plummeted and the ear speaker volume became really quiet. I thought that maybe replacing the battery would fix everything. no such luck. The reception is still just as bad and the ear speaker volume is just as faint.
I'll guess that some part burns out after about two years. a capacitor or something. I've seen similar gripes about the lifespans of Motorola phones and, in particular, ear speakers suddenly losing volume. I think I'll try switching brands.

I have a 3 yr old V551 and its fine, but I'm sure your carrier will offer you an upgrade as that phone is relatively old, go to a store and check out the new phones.
