if you press and hold down the volume key the clock will light up for about 10secs or so. this way you can check the time without opening the phone.

I guess there is no unlock code or anything to keep it on constantly?

I called and they mentioned that Samsung tries to save battery life and does not make this available. They actually tell you that you have to open the phone. But, if you hold the left volume button for a couple seconds it does flash on for a little while it is closed. So, it will not stay on all the time.

I don't know about USB cable, but for $25 you can get a blue tooth USB dongle that works great. Here is a link to the place where I bought mine.

As far ask getting the date/time display to stay on constantly, wow, what a battery drain that would be. Others have already stated that you can hold down the volume button on the left side of the phone for a couple seconds to get the display to come on without having to open it up.
CAN we change the length of time that the display will stay lit?
It would seem like a logical option to include in the display settings.
Using the search feature of Adobe Acrobat reader while reading the PDF version of the user manual makes it easy to find answers to such questions.

Menu 9.3.6 Backlight allows you to change the duration of the backlight and interior display but I have NOT been able to figure out how to extend the duration of the external display. I could have sworn that I saw how to do that somewhere, but it does NOT appear to be in the Display Settings where it SHOULD be.
Of course, when the phone is connected to the wall charger, the front display remains on!

Just talked with T-Mobile.
That's is just the way it is. There will be no external display.
But, I have it on my other Samsungs and it isn't a drain on my battery.
Jeez.
