Can someone tell me if this is a common problem with other phones/services ?
I use Cincinnati Bell, a local provider. Service is great in the Cincinnati area and along the entire length of I-75 (Detroit to Florida) but I lose the signal totally in the area surrounding my house, about 1/4 mile in all directions. I don't get a "roaming" indicator and I can't make a phone call. I'm also getting a very short time between recharges, recently less than 24 hours where I used to get 7-10 days. Could this be the result of my phone (Motorola V555) searching ?

We had poor battery issues with a Moto Red RAZR for Sprint. We're talking fully charged in the morning @ 7am. By 7pm, phone is dead. Less than 1 hr of talking. No web use or texting. I tried everything.setting the phone to Sprint only, turned off GPS location, set all the displays to minimum, key locks, etc.
I learned from Sprint Users that by disabling the EVDO on the RAZR it woudl save the battery dramatically. This is different from changing to Sprint only for the network/roaming. You'll need to call Sprint to get the MSL number to turn the EVDO off.
Now if you are in EVDO and use the data services, you may not get the higher speeds. Since I'm in a mixed EVDO area, the phone was constantly trying to search for EVDO. Vision data still works, but not at the increased speeds. For me, the phone and battery life were more important than EVDO. For simple text messages, the CDMA speeds are just fine. Since I turned off EVDO, it's been 14 hours since I've taken it off the charger.45 minutes of talking.still full battery bars. Prior to this, phone was dead in 10-12 hours.

Don't take this the wrong way, but the 'style' of the RAZR hasn't changed since it came out in November of 2004, as for the model, Sprint was one of the last to get the RAZR, and by then, even the V3M had been out for a while. I wouldn't say that they were rushing much.
However it is common for all Motorola phones that are EVDO capable to have shorter battery lives when in fringe EVDO coverage. The constant search does drain the battery quicker.
Now for the person with Cincinatti Bell, have you made any changes recently, like moving or switching phones. If not, has the phone and service always been like this. If not generally that means there is something going wrong with the phone.
As for Sprint Direct Stores, those usually are interested in one thing, which is retail sales. The customers I get from there are almost always dissatisfied with the service that they receive. That could be all in who is managing it. As for the foreign call centers, those are IBM's that Sprint outsources much of their customer service calls too, and generally you could ask five of them the same question, and get five different answers. If at first you don't get an American, hang up and try again.

As far as I know the V555 is not EVDO capable plus my carrier doesn't even provide it (again as far as I know). And it does not display anything that would indicate that it's roaming. The reception for my area has slipped - when originally purchased about a year ago, I was able to call/receive (1 - 2 bars) if I stood in the front room of my house. I can no longer do that (no bars). But I don't get a roaming indicator (maybe because there's no competitive tower in range either ?).
I did purchase a new battery, now I'm hoping someone can tell me what will happen when I pull the old to replace with the new - will I lose all my contacts, etc. ?

Contacts and such are usually stored on internal flash memory which is pretty stable, should not lose any contacts and probably will not have to resett any setting either.
A phone will usually display roaming, even if it is not and the signal is extremely weak, but present. It is possible however that the service provider has asked the manufacturer to change this.

Thanks, I replaced the battery without problem. All my data is still there.
Now I see my new battery also discharges in about a day.
Still looking for answers.

If replacing the battery doesn't fix your problem, replace it again, I've been in retail long enough to see that occasionally the third one IS the charm. If after that is still doesn't work right, the next place to look is the phone itself.

I too had sporatic battery life on my newly aquired Motorola RazrV3 from Sprint. Initial contact with phone support and local "Authorized" support got me nowhere. They (local) were going to charge me $55, warranty or not, to check my phone for battery problems.
Suggestions from this forum did get me answers and results. 1) change the "automatic" under settings>roaming>set mode on your phone, to Sprint only. That seemed to help the most. 2) Call tech support and have them turn off the EVDO if your not into downloading stuff from the internet. That feature helps speed up the downloads/uploads. 3) Buy a couple of extra batteries from aftermarket suppliers. Much cheaper and you get 1 year no questions asked warranty.
This is one of the better tech forums I've seen

I'm about to give up and dump my Red Razr V3, but I love it so and I want it to work. I would appreciate any assistance. My problem as follows.
I've had my phone over 2 years and it has worked very well. After 2 years, the battery started to go bad (or so I thought) and I figured it was time to buy a new one. I did, but as others here have mentioned, it will not last the day. If I talk on the phone, it will lose power very quickly. The weird part is that it worked so well for 2 years. I have 3 extra batteries, one of which I have not even tried out yet. I have tried all of the suggestions on battery longevity (limit charges, use the battery until it is low before charging, avoiding car and PC charges etc), but nothing seems to work. I'm considering the EVDO limit, but why would that be an issue now if it wasn't the first 2 years? One thing that might be a factor.I used the charger that came with my Motorola bluetooth earpiece (both car and home charger) with my phone for awhile. Could these have caused a problem with my phone?
Any suggestions? I want to keep my phone cause I have the Phone tools set up on my computer to do all the things I like with my phone. I'm thinking of the VM20 Razr, but I don't want a recurrence of these issues. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.
