I upgraded 4 family phones to the RAZR phones for my sprint service. All but one have extremely poor battery life. Two phones out of the box drained over night. They were charged in the evening until the "Charged Complete" message displayed. In the morning they were totally drained and shut down by morning. Probably 10-12 hours with no usage. Sprint replaced these two and they worked for a couple of weeks, but one suddenly started the same symtom two days ago.
The one that was working ok, suddenly started the same symptom a few days ago. I charged it last night at 7:00 until it said charging complete which took about two hours. Whenhen I got up this morning at 6:00, it was totally dead and shut off.
Two phones were purchased in Houston and two purchased in Dallas. both from Radio Shack. They have replaced a couple of batteries and chargers on the phones but I am still unhappy with overall battery life. We estimate that the best we get is a couple of days with maybe a total of an hour talk time. One of the better phones drains from just charged to 1 bar after and then talking for a half hour straight.
I know there are a lot of these RAZR phones out there but haven't heard of any issues like mine.
I've had lots of other phones so understand about usage and battery life. I am about to bite the bullet and reactivate my old larger phones. I am very sorry I took the $19 upgrade oportunity to replace my 2-3 year old phones. I will be out about $300 when you add in the service plans and activation fees. Very discouraged.
Anyone have any help or ideas?

U know I just think Motorola sucks, My girlfriend just bought the red razor and less than a week we took it to get it replaced because the sd card couldn't slide in and cause the phone was freezing up to much and vibrating on its own. Also everybody I know that has a razor they always have problems with them.

Since my initial post, we finally discovered the problem that was causing the phone to discharge over night without using it. It appears that something had caused the phone to change the Roaming setting to "Automatic" instead of Sprint. Once the technitian at Sprint changed it to "Sprint", the problem went away. Evidently when it is on automatic, it is always searching for the available network, using up the battery even when not using it. The phones now last a reasonable couple of days depending on the usage. I got lucky and finally got the right technitian at Sprint who had run into this before and knew how to fix it.
From what I have looked up, all the thin line phones, including Katana, seem to have shorter battery lifes which makes sense with the smaller battery. Everyone seems to list that as an issue.
I too charge mine every night now so I am a much happier camper.
Something still flips the setting to Automatic every once in a while which Sprint says is probably a software bug somewhere. As a programmer, I can relate to that.

Automatic is the default setting for any Sprint phone. In Automatic it generally looks for Sprint coverage, if it has a difficult time finding that it'll switch to looking for roaming partners. Generally under the Sprint setting it will not roam, so you may lose service occasionally. Your phone 'should' work fine in the Automatic setting, however your geographic location could be causing the issues.
The Katana has a better battery life as it uses the same battery that most other current model Sanyo phones use. The Fusic also has a better battery life, although this phone is not as slender.
As for the red RAZR with the issues, often times new phones come out with bugs that only require software updates to fix. Don't blame Motorola for this, as Sprint is taking after Verizon and forcing the manufacterers to load Sprints Vision Interface onto the phone instead of Motorola's own operating system. Since I have sold many V3M's (many of them AllTel), I can tell you that generally Motorola makes a solid phone. I will admit that the charging systems for Motorola's are prone to error, and the batteries life both for daily use and for replacement are not as long as some other manufacturers. Ever since they started making their batteries with the white sticker around them they have not lasted as long. Many of my older customers with Condor series phones which for all intents and purposes use the same battery, have used the same battery for many more years then the newer ones. Older Falcons also used the black labeled batteries.

Here's a few simple ideas to extend your battery usage.
First, turn it off at night if possible, and any time you know you won't be able or want to use it. If you are in bad reception area the phone, even on standbye, is searching for a signal. This wastes the battery charge. So turn it off for a while then too.
There might be an extended battery available for your phone which will give you more talk time and standby time. Try batteries4less for more onfo.

If you are a Sprint customer it's no wonder you feel that way, until recently Sprint rarely if ever carried Motorola products, and when they did it was definately inferior to most of Motorola's line. Anyone recall the C290?

Well I've Previously Had TMorbid, ATT Before The Merge, And USCellular. Sprint By Far Has Had The Best Features, Coverage, And Customer Service If You Go Into The Sprint Store Itself. And There's A Ton Of Them Here. So I'm Happy With Sprint And Thier Phone Selection. Besides, With The Razor And All Those Other Phones They Are Just Rushing Them Out For Style, Not Functionality.

Well I have 3 of these phones and all 3 have bad battery time, only had them 7 days. Called Sprint, oh by the way has the worst customer service. They recommend contacting Motorola which I did and they sent out extended battery life batteries but same problem with those too. Can only get 1 hour or so before battery fades. I called them back and which ever India call center you get you get a different answer each time. Now they are sending 3 portable chargers to help with the issue here. I was told by Motorola that there is a problem and that they and Sprint will notify me of a fix. But I call Sprint and of course they know NOTHING. I will wait till my 30 days to return is almost up if no fix by then I will just swap to another phone. Also my phones are set too Sprint only mode and I tried the run the battery down then remove and then charge but still the same.
