I dropped and broke my beloved LG VX 4500.
I bought an LG VX 8300 but promptly took it back to the store when I found it was crippled because the two basic features I LOVE were missing!
First, when I find myself in a radio studio or the statehouse, I need to be able to press a button on the outside to put it in vibrate/manner mode. I could not do this with the 8300. I would have to open it and fish around for the commands, or press the side button continually.
Second, when the wire is plugged in, you cannot answer the phone unless you open it! This is nearly impossible to do while driving.soooo.
I bought an LG 4500 from eBay that was supposedly 'new'. It is NOT a real 'LG' but looks to be a knockoff and is definitely NOT NEW. But it works so I kept it.
The voice slowly and sweetly says, "Call from restricted number, do you want to connect"? You can say YES and it will answer, and then you can pull out the ear wire and your phone stays closed and talks to you via the speaker. Truly hands free! So I figure I'll keep this one for a spare.
Meanwhile I go to the store and they have the LG VX 4650 for me so I can return the 8300. Looks great. I get it set up then get in the supermarket with the earwire in. A call comes through. Instead of the above, I get the same high pitched screaming repetitious "Call from restricted number, Call from restricted number, Call from restricted number, Call from restricted number," that I got from the 8300 when it was plugged into the wire! ARRRRGH!
It's like a freaking annoying PARROT! And of course you cannot say YES because it does NOT ASK you if you would like to connect! So it's really NOT driving mode as I KNEW it. You STILL have to fumble with the freakin' phone and open it, which is NOT an easy task with ONE HAND. So much for driving mode.
I am so steamed that if LG/Verizon does not put this feature back I WILL go to Cingular or anyone else that does have it.
Does Cingular have this full feature?
Someone save me!
I am going to write and call Verizon and LG as well on this.TERRIBLE!
I want my full voice command driving mode BACK!
Or I will defect.

Umm if you are using a headset with an answer key it should not be an issue also try looking in your phone settings because all the things you are complaing about can be changed. Sound more like operator error to me

I don't think you understand. The headset is in and you are able on the LG4500 to just say YES and then pull the wire out and speak, or YES and speak with the wire in your ear.
There is no 'button' on the LG4650 to do this.
And if the 'answer key' is INSIDE that is unacceptable. On the LG4500 you did NOT need to open the phone to answer it, isn't that the point with Driving Mode?
The LG4500 did this 100% by voice, nothing else to press or open.

OH right, just press the star key. What you are forgetting is the star key is INSIDE the phone. I DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO OPEN IT!
The 8300 is a totally useless phone and the worst phone I ever had.
And women with 4 ft of hair do not want to wear an earpiece, or have to buy something else when the phone could take care of it by itself, or have to worry about charging up another piece of equipment.
Verizon has gone backward if you ask me. the 4500 was the best and most useful phone ever made.
Besides I already dumped the 8300 and took the 4650.which still has part of this missing. I have to open the phone to answer it! I don't call that driving mode.
The 8300 is backward!

actually. i have 4 feet of hair. and bluetooth is totally the way to go. maybe you should try to utilize more useful and functional features of phones. toothpick and i actually agree that bluetooth is the best and more functional feature of the 8300.
and it's a proven fact that verizon wireless has the best and most innovative products and services.
verizon wireless is not moving backwards, and not to be rude. but it seems to me as though you're stuck in the past.

Sorry but bluetooth sucks, is noisy and I hate it. Driving mode was the safest, easiest way to go but unfortunately, Verizon made no extra money on it.
Why drop a good feature and cripple a phone when it could also have been incorporated? Have you ever heard the word 'choice'?
They said they were going to put it back they had so many complaints. The 8300 was the most useless phone I've had yet.

I am a rep for a 3rd party company that services VZW customers. Thanks for being our customers. We do appreciate it. I've been one myself for about 8 years or so. I listen to issues people have everyday with their phones and to discuss customers invoices. Can you really find something useful to gripe about? The 8300, as stated, can go into silent, not manner mode, by pressing the * key on the keypad. I had the LG vx6000 and this phone did as your old phone did: when pressing the side button below the volume controls it would change between vibrate/manner, silent, and regular ring mode. This was an awesome feature. I used it alot and totally miss it. It is not VZW's fault that this feature has been eliminated. It is LG's fault. VZW doesn't cripple the handsets in that way. That's the manufacturer. If you want the feature changed then bitch to LG about it and have them change it back on a future handset. My LG vx8100 also doesn't have this feature. It only goes between silent mode and regular mode. But as life goes on I have learned to deal with it. I love the 8100 even more than my old 6000 and I haven't parted with it yet because I frankly think most of VZW's handsets absolutely suck right now. Big fingers = need good size buttons to push and when driving I really want to be able to feel the buttons under my fingers. I hate this Moto Sliver, Razor, and LG 8600 flat phone because you can't feel the buttons under your finger tips for crap. So I kept my 8100.
On to the next part. VZW does make mistakes. We are only as good as our fellow reps and frankly some reps just don't do their jobs. Customers: Be aware that VCAST is automatically added to your phone when you activate a new VCAST capable phone. It is FREE for the 1st 30 days. After that you must cancel prior to your bill cycle date or you will be charged $15.00 for the next bill cycle for VCAST service.
If you go over your minutes and need to change your calling plan to a higher plan to cover your overages, tell the rep you want to upgrade and backdate your calling plan. EX: You are on a 700/69.99 2 line Family Share Plan (FSP) and your bill cycle date (when your current month ends) is the 26th. It is the 19th and you have used 973min. Overage on that plan are $.45/min. This means 700mins are included in the plan and 273 are over resulting in = 273mins *.45/min = $122.85 in overages SO FAR. If you call on the 19th and say you want to upgrade to the 1400min FSP for 89.99/2 lines, TELL THE REP YOU WANT TO BACKDATE. Not every rep will automatically backdate even thought that's what they're supposed to do. This will COVER ALL of your OVERAGES used + give you more min up to 1400 to use for that current bill cycle. Because you are billed for the current month you are using, VZW cannot modify your previous statement so you will pay your regular monthly charges on the next bill + the difference in price between the old FSP vs the new FSP. In this case you would pay on your next bill 89.99 for the 1400min FSP + $20 (the difference between the old and new plans: 89.99 - 69.99 = $20). Use #MIN to get a free txt msg that will tell you an ESTIMATE of your min used so that you can avoid going over. If you are about to go over and you check your min, stop using your phone temporarily until 9pm-6am M-F or all day Sat & Sun when you have free N&W minutes. If you continue using your phone and go over and don't check your minutes, and don't upgrade your plan, then don't bother calling to get a credit because it's not going to work.
Verizon Wireless does make mistakes. I'll be the 1st to admit it. Sometimes features fall off accounts due to expiration dates; sometimes due to rep error. If you are billed a high bill, 1st check your min usage. Check online and use MY ACCT to view your full, detailed invoice before you call and bitch about a high bill. Try to work it out for a min and see if you can understand it. If you don't understand your bill then I am more than happy to get your call and educate you on what you are billed for. You may not like my answer though so be prepared. If you deserve a credit I will give it to you but if you don't deserve it, then you are getitng it. Use the web to search for commnon things like how to send a txt msg. READ YOUR OWNERS MANUAL. This one simple step will solve 70% of the problems that people have. Know your roaming indicator on your phone and know that if you don't have an America's Choice II no roaming plan then if you travel out of your home calling area you will be charged roaming fees. *****ATTENTION*****If someone promises you anything like an activation fee credit or ANYTHING, get it in writing with a signature and a sales ID #. This way you have a record when you call to get credit for something that you have been billed in error for and tell them to notate your acct. Keep a record of who you talk to and when. This will help you, not hurt you.
I'm tired now so I'm gonna lay down and sleep. It's my day off so, ha ha, you aren't calling me today. You'll have to wait until tomorrow. Good day.

Sorry but LG told me that it's VERIZON who requests the features on their phones.
Verizon told me to call LG to complain, which I did. That is what they said when I did.
HOWEVER, LG also told me that since so many people complained aobut the REMOVAL of this advanced feature, they will at least have ONE phone that will have it again.
The 8300 is useless unless you want an MP3 player and even for that it sucks. I have an iPod, what do I need music on my PHONE for? I have an expensive camera that takes realy GOOD photos, why does my phone need to do that?
I want a phone that is convenient and SAFE to use.and they have removed the only feature that makes it thus.
