A few nights ago someone broke into my house which set the alarm off. But some how the intruder had cut my phone line before breaking in so my ADT alarm could not call the monitoring station. And I couldnt call from my landline because it was cut. I dialed 911 from my Cingular phone and I said someone was in my house, he came in my room saw I was on my phone and he grabbed it and hung it up before I could tell the operator any of my information. I was really worried that they would not find me. Needless to say about 2 minutes later here comes the police down my street. They knew it was my house because my alarm flashes all the outside lights when it's set off. But I know it was not my neighbor's that called because my house is in the middle of 2 acres with tree's surronding and you can't hear my alarm outside. So how did they manage to locate me so quickly because I didn't give any info.

ohh dude, sorry about the robbery, happenede to me once, and they took everythink, thank god for insurance right. anyway, yea as long as your phone has GPS on it, they can pinpoint your EXACT location as long as the GPS reciever is configured to automatically relay the location to the operator. But like others have said, they can also automatically get an ~location by using tower signals and mapping out the area, and the local towers.
BTW, did they ever catch the guy, hopefullt to get people like that off the streets.

GSM phones generally don't have GPS hence the need for tower triangulation

.VZ | Yea, he was in the house when the police came. My city has a great police department, they got to my house less than 2 minutes after my call. I think he was watching my house before he broke in. He probaly saw single mom, no husband and he found out how to cut the phone line which is on the back of my house. I am just glad they could actualy find me instantly.
