Exactly what it says, when I plug my Razr into my computer, I don't even get the popup that recognizes that something has been plugged in. I'm not sure that it's the USB cable that came with my phone, but that is what i'm leading up to as of right now. My question is, has anyone else come about this problem? And if so, did you fix it, and how?

I have installed all of the drivers that are necessary, and have had no luck so far. I have read countless posts and different websites on how to get it to work, but none have provided a solution, as I cannot even get Windows to see the device attached to it. I know the port ON the phone works, because my charger works with it. I know the USB (not on a HUB) port on the back of my computer works, because I have plugged several different items in it and those work, but not my phone. If anyone can shed some light on this, it would be much appreciated.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I tried all of the steps necessary as well on a Windows XP SP2 system, and it still doesn't work (doesn't recognize anything is even attached). That is what leads me to believe that my USB cable isn't working, but I don't have 40$ to fork over to radioshack to test that theory.

Specs:
Phone: V3 Razr
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate x64

If you need anymore information, please ask for it, as I got this phone partly because I wanted to be able to customize. =(

$40.00? Try a cellular accesory store, I've gotten several of them for $14-15.00.
And just because the charger works doesn't mean that the USB part of the phone is working (this is definitely a question for Mike Kay). You've done a good job of trouble-shooting the problem, it appears that it's narrowed down to a phone problem.
I'm curious, did you have to get updated drivers to use with Vista?

ok, did a complete reset of my phone, nothing has changed, and I have installed drivers for Vista Ultimate x64. The balloon still fails to show up, and yes, I have updated my drivers, with these:

http://www.foxframes.net/download/Mot_USB_Driver_x64_v2.6.2.0.zip

Not sure if that is what i'm supposed to install, but it's the only thing Vista related AND 64 bit related to this problem. I just got home from work to check to see if it would work, and it is yet to be working. I have also, on my XP sp2 system, installed all the proper drivers, and it STILL doesn't work, which leads me to believe that it's the USB cord. I don't have enough money to buy one now, lol, unfortunately. I'm going to restart my comp to see if the drivers needed a restart to work properly, but doubt it will matter.

Have you checked the settings on your phone. You have to set your phone to fax/data connection for the computer to see it.

If I could get the phone screen to come on AND stay on at the same time, then I could possibly look for that. but at the moment, my screen doesn't come on.and if it does, it turns right off after. it takes forever to get my screen on, I have to constantly be taking in and out the battery to keep trying it. i've tried plugging in and out the flex connector, even rubbed it with alcohol just a few minutes ago to see if it would turn on, but nothing worked. pissing me off, and to add it all up, the guy I bought it from wont email me back (from ebay). guess its a lesson learned. I hope I can get this phone to work.I waited a long time for it.

If the phone won't come on and stay on and you have charged the battery completely you need to make a claim with Ebay for item received not as described. It was listed as a WORKING unit right? It sounds like there is more of a problem with this phone than the USB connection. Don't worry about the buyer responding, Ebay will get after him. How did you pay for the phone? If you used PayPal they have a good resolution system as well.

I used PayPal, and where exactly do I file this claim at? And, the title said Brand new, so it should be working, although it didn't say it explicitly, right? Heres the item I bought:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=019&sspagename=STRK%3 AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=290095347211&rd=1&rd=1

Although it might not say that it's '100% working', it does say it is brand new, which is false. I opened the phone up to find dust everywhere, scuff marks, and one missing screw. I don't think this item is brand new.

Yes under connectivity, you want to be set to Fax/Data/USB instead of Bluetooth for the default. That should get the two of them talking to each other.

Once you sign on to your PayPal Account there should be a button that says Resolution Center at the top of the screen. Click that and follow the instructions given. I have had to use this feature a few times and PayPal will follow through. You can also work with Ebay and file the same kind of Claim and let the Ebay community know that the seller is shady and doesn't provide what is shown in the auction.
