Update:
I checked the Cingular Forums, which are surprisingly informative, to find out how to set up my connection to "Cingular Store" and the other features associated. I stumbled across a post on upgrading the firmware and flex to V600, did a lot of reading the last couple of days and went for it.
My v300 is now flashed to TRIPLETS_G_0B0975R and flexed to a v600. Everything seems more responsive just as others had suggested it would be. This could also be attributed to the 5megs of free space, I suppose.
Anyhow, to the main question: In its previous state I was able to link a sound file to a known caller so it would play a specific ringtone for that person. Now I don't seem to be able to accomplish this. Is this a feature unavailable to the v600 software, or is it simply hidden and needs to be unblocked with a SEEM hex? I kind of liked the feature, so any info or pointing in the right direction would be appreciated.

first go to ringstyle menu. check the detail (in whicever is chosen). and check for Ringer IDs option. must be set ON to be working.
you should see that option since it comes by default in all motorolas. hope that works.
Cheers

Found the solution: In order to save memory on the phone I had been storing numbers on my SIM card. Turns out switching them to be stored in the phone allows you to give ringer IDs.
Thanks for the effort.
