Well I sure don't care for unions. I live in Michigan, and have watched the UAW overprice their services for so long that the company has to take the jobs to non-union states or overseas. While Toyota brings more jobs to the US, the Big Three have to take them out of the country to stay competitive. Big Three employees make $25 an hour more with benefits then Toyota employees do, but a Toyota employee is at work right now and paying his mortgage, while the UAW employee is sitting on his a$$ at home eating potato chips b|tching about the greedy CEO who needs to make so much money. In the meantime, last year the CEO took a 50% pay cut, the VP's took 33% paycuts, and the rest of upper management took 25% pay cuts, meanwhile the UAW yells and screams and threatens strike if they don't get a raise. I work in sales, retail sales, no union for me, and I don't really care, but with the pinch the UAW has put the big three in, I'm having a much harder time getting sales, and it's starting to p|ss me off. Then to top it all off, I get to listen to the politicians lie about the whole issue. One side says it's the other sides fault, both sides lie and say they can bring the jobs back. It's not the governments job to fix a BUSINESS problem. You want a job, overthrow the UAW, I'm sure the big three would like to stop paying overseas freight charges. Sorry off topic, but no, I do not like unions, from what I've seen, it's a good old boy system of back scratching and productivity hindrances. They had their day, their day is over, or at least should be.

Well, you may not, but our Union just got our pay from 11.50 an hour to $21.00 an hour. Yeah, plus out UNION, just got us another 40 hours a YEAR OF PAID TIME OFF/VACATION TIME.

Go CWA.
And no offense, you don't deserve isn't 21 an hour overkill? i mean good for you but i'd question your job security now.

Actually They Could Just SubContract Then Instead Of Closing Them. Or, if att decides to change thier name again, that contract is null and void.

Dude.
Changing names does not void out a contract. Clearly you're the one who is uneducated about all of this.

And no offense, you don't deserve 21 dollars an hour. no call center rep does. seriously, you sit on your ass all day and answer a phone. rofl. sure you get yelled at but that comes with the territory of customer service. how come REAL customer service people DON'V get to make that much, like waitress's, or people who work in an airport? i wouldn't be suprised if your company shut down all it's call centers here and outsourced them. if you want to make 21 an hour and deserve it, try getting a real job.

the reason retail doesnt pay well is there is no large cost into hireing a walmart emp, retail workers are expendable, and airlines don’t pay that well w/ the exception of mechanics and pilots is that the profit margin on an airline is very low, Wait staff dont get paid that well because there are no multi billion dollar restaurant chains, obviously you have never worked for a wireless company in a call center, you just have a few high tech phone and believe what your idiot friends tell you. Most people in here either currently work in the wireless industry or have at one point in time so you BS wont fly here

And Yes, What Many Companies Do Is Have One Of Thier Subsidaries buy another subsidary, which att does, and the new owners in the eyes of the law(At Least In The US) Do Not Have To Honor Any Prior Contracts, Lawsuits Filed Against It, Or Anything Of That Nature, As This Is A Different Company And Said Contracts Were With Another Company Which Is No Longer In Existance. Don't Believe Me? Call A Business Lawyer.

I have major problems with the CWA and AT&T in the Joplin, MO Business Care call center. I can list about 20 people who have been improperly terminated for attendance, myself included. While I loved working at AT&T (I really did, I would go back in a heartbeat if I could), some of their attendance policies seemed good in writing, however, did not pan out in actuality.

This may have just been our call center (don't know if it's a company wide thing), but what we were told during training that missing work was on a point system. A quarter of a point for missing the two hours, half a point for missing half a day, 3 quarters of a point for missing most of the day, and one point for missing the whole day. If we were sick for more than 2 days in a row, we needed a doctors note and they (being AT&T) would link all the days missed as 1 point, rather than being pointed once for each day. Again, sounds good on paper.

I was sick. My appendix ruptured, while at work, mind you. They wheeled me out of the call center on a stretcher and took me to the hospital for emergency surgery (which my fantastic insurance covered). I was out for almost 2 weeks, part from recovering from surgery, part trying to keep food down after taking my pain meds. I had a doctors note for that entire time, and then some. Doctor actually wanted me to relax for another week.

I went back to work 2 weeks from the day they wheeled me out. I worked that day, and the next, I was called into HR. I get in there, and there is a union rep, along with the attendance manager. They said they needed my badge, an they would go and collect my personal items and bring them to me. The CWA rep that was there, handed me a paper to sign, and when I mentioned something about filing a greivance against them, he looked at me like he didn't know what I was talking about, and got my number and said he'd have the union chapter president follow up.

Guess what? He never did.

I am NOT the only person who this has happened to. I know of at least 12-20 people. My current supervisor at my new call center (not affiliated with any mobile company) was terminated after getting back from MATERNITY LEAVE.

I mean, seriously?
