Thanks Roy for replying. You know, I've tried to drag the dm. file to the phone icon so many times and a circle with a diagonal line would appear over the phone not allowing me to drop the file on the icon. I will try all the steps again on a different computer and see if it has anything to do with the settings of this computer. Thanks again for your help!

Hi Roy,
Thot I'd let you know that I finally figured it out . Basically, the reason why I couldn't drag the dn. files to the phone icon was because I didn't install all the necessary softwares. When I installed the software from the Ericsson disk at first, it keeps asking me to update new files. I thought I already did and not realizing that it was actually installing a different component everytime it asks. So, after clicking yes to each time it prompts, (when everything is installed), it was smooth sailing there. I am so happy. ! Thank you so much, so nice to meet such helpful people! Take care! I will enjoy my ericsson phone so much more now!

Hello, I did all the steps and had everything work out fine. the only thing is. the files still won't work as ringtones =/ I don't know why. The phone accepted it and everything. *shrugs* I think my phone just hates it me ^^;

You said everything worked out fine. When you dragged the drm file to the root of the drive, did the phone respond asking if you wanted to use the file? I don't think there's any variation in phones (i.e. the Fido people claimed they didn't know there was an issue but they verified their z710i kiosk phones did the same thing). The process is a bit finicky so I'd just try repeating the process.

Yes, it asked and everything. It's strange, I've tried it with different songs and it refuses to cooperate, I'm not quite sure what the problem is. I'll keep trying, though

Good day, first time here. Site looks really cool, I'm sure I'll be using it a lot. First off, Roy amazing instructions even for me a less than 'computer guy". My trouble with with creating a ringtone from the MP3 is that when I hit "create DRM content" and window pops up saying "File(s) protected successfully" does this mean the file is protected so I cannot create DRM content? I don't get the sub folder with the lock key icon you describe. I've dropped about 8 MP3's and they all get the same response?
Anything you can offer is appreciated. Thanks,

Hmmmmmm, what am I doing wrong.?
I'm running WinXP SP2 and trying to transfer an mp3 to the phone for use as a ringtone. I've successfully DRM'ed the file (according to instructions in this forum) and am now trying to transfer. My PC will not "see" the phone if I don't open it and select "File Transfer", at which point the windows explorer will then see only my additional M2 card. The Sony Ericsson File Transfer software will not see anything. just sits there with an icon that says "Not Connected". I've also installed Sony Ericsson Media Manager. to no avail. My Z710i did not come with any software that I'm aware of.
The PC does make an audible signal when I connect the data cable, as well as when I disconnect. It just won't "see" the Z710i. My carrier is FIDO Canada and the mp3 IS less than 600kb (if that matters). HELP! I think I've tried everything, any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance.

Wow.
As seems to be the theme in this thread, think I've solved my own problem. Downloaded the Sony Ericsson PC Suite which included drivers for the Z710i. Now the file manager sees the phone without opening it and selecting "File Transfer". After that, the directions in this thread worked perfectly. Thanks for the help!
