I am an old AT&T Wireless (before it became Cingular) customer with an expired contract. Due to an inadvertent fall in a pool, my old cell phone (a Nokia 3595) is acting up.
As far as I am concerned, I have four options when it comes to replacing my phone:
· Buy another phone (but not a Nokia 3595) and use my current SIM with the new phone;
· Buy another Nokia 3595 and use my current SIM with the new phone;
· Upgrade my current contract and get a new phone for free;
· Switch provider and get new phone for free.
The last two options are rather self-explanatory. But I have a couple of questions concerning the first two options for which I would greatly appreciate an answer.
If I were to purchase a new Nokia 3595 (unlocked), would I simply have to switch the SIM cards to replace my old phone?
If I was to purchase a new phone (not a Nokia 3595), is there a way to find which phone would work with my current SIM card?

You can not upgrade or renew old AT&T contract.
Any unlocked GSM phone will work with your AT&T sim.

Yes, if you wanted to upgrade you'd have to select a new Cingular Rate plan, as far as unlocked phones go, you'll need a phone with the 850 band, so to be on the safe side, get a quadband phone

It makes no sense to keep the old AT&T. Yea I'm sure you must have a plan that no one can beat. The thing is don't be suprised if Cingular decides to terminate the AT&T wireless netwrok after they deem it to ne non profitable. Just upgrade and get a current CIngular phone, it will save you alot of headache down the road.

Yeah - upgrade. It used to make sense, doesn't any more. Cingular sends good deals on phones every few years trying to tempt me to sign another contract with them.
