Hello,
I hope that someone can help me.
I have been a faithful GSM user for years, starting with Sprint in DC. and through all of the buyouts and whatever and now been with T-Mobile for over 5 years.
Anyway, I have a Vonage VOIP line. My problem is that whenever I recieve a call that is forwarded from the Vonage system, the caller ID on my cellphone is incorrect.
The Caller ID on the cellphone adds a "01" in front of the number and cuts off the last 2 digits. (This for all US inbound calls forwarded from the Vonage system.) This makes the phone book and re-dial not work.
If I set Vonage to forward Vonage calls to a land line, the caller id is correct.
I have 4 cellphones and 2 separate T-Mobile accounts (San Antonio & Los Angeles) and this Caller ID error occurs on all calls on all of my Tmobile phones. Incoming calls made directly to the cellphone displays the correct caller id syntax. Only when the calls come through the Vonage system does the caller id get out of wack.
Vonage says it is Tmobiles problem. Tmobile says it is not their problem.
Any help or advice is appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks for gettin back to me.
I thought that "1" was the country code for US, whenever I am overseas, I have to dial 00 for international access and then the country code followed by the number. For the US, 00+1+ area code and number.
This problem is playing havoc with me. On calls coming from the Vonage system, the phone book doesn't work and neither does redial.
If the caller id displayed the whole 10 digit phone number I could deal with it, but, the last 2 digits of the phone number gets chopped off on the caller id.

You need to call the phone's manufacturer to see if it can be set to receive the entire number Vonage is sending, which apparently is sending the country code along with the 10-digit number. This isn't a problem on either carrier's part. All of the mobile phones I've ever encountered show only the 10-digit phone number with no country code. So what you're seeing is the entire number with the last 2 digits chopped off.
Actually, a good question for T-Mobile and the pther phone carriers is this: Does your Caller ID system forward the entire number from an international call or does it truncate (that means "cut off", I know someone will ask. ) the last two digits of a Caller ID number that contains the country code?
Vonage is not the bad guy here, but there may not be a fix. Probably a case of a set of hands not knowing what the hands were doing.

Thanks,
But, I don't think that the problem is that I run out of digit displaying capacity on my cellphone. I get calls from Mexico on my cell and they are 12-15 digits and they get displayed completely.
Even on the monthly printout or online, the last 2 digits are cut off for the calls that get passed through Vonage. (The problem is US calls.)
When the same phone that called me via the Vonage line, calls the cellphone directly, the complete number is displayed without the "01".

Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I am having the exact same issue. I have been with Vonage and Tmobile for over a year (using tVonage forwarded to my cell) with no problem for a year and BAM! something changed to the added "01" dropped last 2 digits caller ID issue.
Tmobile says it the phone carrier. But SOMETHING must have changed if it was working properly with no issues before.
I have noticed several other users on Internet postings having the same issue but with no answer. It seems that Vonage blames tmobile and tmobile blames vonage. Very convenient for both of them Hmmm !
Again, this issue it seems for everyone only began in MARCH or APRIL of 2007.
PLEASE let me know if you have learned anything new. This is very frustrating.

Yes, we have a theory. But, a little background. We purchased the Vonage service for the multi-ring feature, so our choice of phone number is of no concern.
Our incoming sales line is forwarded out to multiple members of the sales team to ring their phones simultaneously. Whoever is quickest to answer takes the call.
Anyway, the theory is that if your Vonage phone number is from Level 3 Communications; T-Mobile and Level 3 don't work well with each other. Whether is just started or has been on going, I don't know as I only signed up for the service recently.
Click here and follow the prompts along, it will tell you the exact carrier of your number. (Don't forget to check the box and click Continue.)
(My new number ended up being a Focal Communications number.)
If your carrier is Level 3, then the theory still stands. I had the problem with my old phone number, which was Level 3. But since we don't care what number we forward our sales line out to we changed our Vonage number to one that is of a different carrier. I chose the number based on other Vonage users that had other than Level 3 Communications numbers.
Mine has worked sinced changing to Focal Communications. Bottom line is that neither T-Mobile or Vonage are the problem.

Here's another caller id for you to take a stab at because I have no answers to it. I go to the university of pittsburg and everytime I get a phone call from somone from a campus phone, the caller I'd only displays the area code. Pitt is using avaya voip. My place of employment also uses avaya voip and I have no issues when they call me. Any ideas?

Hum, Don't know if it is related or not.
Avaya is just the telephone switching equipment installed at your office or on campus.
If it is a similar problem to what we have with Vonage, T-Mobile and Level 3, check to see who the carrier of the phone number is.
Click here and follow the prompts along, it will tell you the exact carrier of your number. (Don't forget to check the box and click Continue.)
If it is also Level 3, we may be on to something. If not, it may not be a related issue.
Does the caller id work with landlines? 7-8 years ago, we owned an Avaya phone switch in our office, and our switch guy could make the caller ID display any number he wanted to have display. We lease our switch now and don't get to play with it. Whether the newer switches allow that much control I don't know.
