Ok here's the deal.
I want a PDA/Smartphone so I can run a certain application on it when I'm on vacation and stuff. However, I don't want to carry around the huge PDA all the time so I was investigating having 2 cell phones on the same phone number.
From what I have read so far, the only way to do that with Verizon is to activate the phone you want to use on the Verizon website which would mean one is always inactive.
Does that only mean the inactive phone cannot receive calls? Or does that mean the inactive phone will not get any service at all?
I'm wondering if I can keep my small phone active and still be able to connect to internet services with PDA but just not be able to send/receive phone calls. Wishful thinking?
Or I suppose if I get a Wi-Fi phone, I will be able to still connect to the internet wherever available even if the phone isn't activated.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Yes, when you do the swap the other phone will not be able to make or receive calls, there is no way to have 2 phones active on the same number.

If you had either T-Mobile or Cingular you could easily swap the SIM from one device to another. No problems at all.
Back in 1998 Cellular One offered what was called a Flex Account and would allow you to do just what your asking.
Perhaps finding a rep that has been at Verizon a long time might be familiar w/ what you are asking.
Other than that I would say switch carriers.

Also, w/ more thinking about your issue.
1) Cingular offers a PDA the 8525 that does offer Wi-fi.
Or
2) Cingular does allow you to have a PDA only rate plan for . I.E. Unlimited Data/Email ONLY ranging from $39.99-$44.99.then you could use your handset as you usually do.
