Hello,
I got an SDA a few months ago and have called at least once a month with problems- the phone program freezing, data connection terminating and not reinitializing with a soft OR hard reset, etc- all in all, a dud of a phone. CS wouldn't send me a replacement. Finally got tired of it all and took the phone in to a store who looked at it and called T-Mobile. They're replacing it for me with a Dash. My question is, what is the water sticker on the inside of the battery compartment? The CSR I talked to didn't know wich it was- I guess the database doesn't have a clear pic of it or something. My phone has NEVER been in water, but I did have it in the bathroom with me on the counter one cold night when I took a shower and the room got steamy- I needed to take a shower for work the next morning but needed to be by my phone 'cause my sister was having surgery (I use my cell as my house phone)- so I'm worried that may have tripped the indicator. TMob has a record of the calls I placed, but I don't thing that'd matter, even though it's proof this has been a problem from day one.
When I pull the battery, there's 2 stickers. One is a square which is shiny white and says void in red letters- but I think it said that from day one. right next to that is a rectangle sticker, kinda fabrick-y that is white, but if you turn the phone and look at it in the right light, you can see dots or something that are pink under the white gauzzy top. Any ideas?
As a side, I've been reading alot of the complaints on this forum, and all I can say is, in my experience with TMobile, as with the lower eschelons of the government, the people you talk to aren't the enemy. When I called to cancel service when my contract was up so I could go to another company to get the phone I wanted, Customer Service gave me a better rate plan and a big discount on the SDA. One of the times I called about the SDA, I was told it might be the Sim, but I would have to buy one myself. I didn't agree with that, as I didn't get a new one when I bought the SDA, but if I was a new customer, I would have, so what's the difference? I didn't argue, didn't get upset, I just told the CSR I was talking to that I understood that he was at the end of what he could do- he said he COULDN'T send me out another SIM- and I appreciated his assistance thus far, but I wanted to speak to a manager. He put me on hold, came back a few minutes later and credited my acount so that I could go and get one at the store. All in all, unless they just got off the phone with a total A$$, the CSRs I've spoken to have been very curteous and helpful.
BUT. I digress. Any ideas on the Litmus Sticker? My dash should be here Monday so I'm sending the SDA out tuesday. I just want to know if I'm going to get screwed or not. Also, something interesting- the CSR I talked to the last time said if I didn't send my SDA in, I'd be charged $350 for the Dash, but if I did send it in and it was out of waranty- cracked plastics, screen, or water damage- then I'd be charged $100. Why is there that difference? I don't mind it, I just thought that I'd be charged $350 no matter what if anything wasn't kosher.

The second sticker sounds more like the water mark to me. I've never heard of one saying void yet, but they normally turn a red or purple color when wet (pink dots could get darker). There should be a few more of those on the inside of the phone too.

yea i think its the void one. water mark stickers are bs. cuz if you take a shower with your phone in the bathroom . the steam can cause the sticker to void the phone

That's because there is a lot more moisture in the air than you would even find in any natural enviroment and the amount is enough to damage the phone. You could always argue to have a tech open the phone and check the stickers on the inside and on the phones mainboard.

If the handset has experienced any type of liquid or physical damage the customer will be charged for replacing the handset, if there is a problem with the sim card there is a charge to replace it, I can never understand why a customer feels like they should get a free brand new phone when something goes wrong with their own phone, the phones are not made by the service providers the phones are made by Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, etc., and the manufacturer of the handsets expect to be paid just as the service providers

Firstly, if a phone is not fully functional, it is the responsibility of the seller to take care of the problem. If any other high end piece of equipment was to break or stop functioning shortly after purchase, the store it was purchased at would take it back for a service or refund. That is the nature of business- you stand by the product you sell, even if you're not the manufacturer. If there is an issue with the product that keeps popping up, it's the responsibility of the retailer to discontinue sale of it- if they care about pubic opinion. Caveat emptor should not apply.
That being said, I bought my SDA from T-mobile, therefore I expect them to remedy a faulty unit. Now, it was their discretion to give me a new phone, AND to upgrade to the Dash. I didn't ask for either, it's just T-mobile exhibiting good public relations.
I also agree that if a SIM fails, especially after I've had it for a few years, it's not the responsibility of T-mobile to replace it. The reason I fought for anoter one is that I just purchased a phoe- the SDA and did not get a SIM with it. If I had been a new customer, I would have gotten a new sim. If there had been a known issue with the phone I was upgrading, I would have gotten a new SIM. Neither instance would have increased the price- the SIM is included with the purchase of the phone. Therefore, I believed I was entitled to a new SIM with the new phone. If the SIM started having problems and I had NOT just purchased a new phone, I would have expected to buy a new SIM myself.
The other issue is that the SIM was fine. Replacing it didn't solve the issue- it was just to troubleshoot and see if it fixed the problem. How many other products do you know of that would force you to buy another item just to test for functionality?
Am I going to fight the water damage charge if it comes up? Yes. Is it because I didn't do something negligent to cause the sticker to turn? No. It's because I have documented proof that I have had problems with this phone from day 1 that have nothing to do with any kind of water damage. There again, if the issues I'm having had cropped up after I had it in the bathroom with me, I would expect to pay for the "water damage." I am an honest individual and expect those that I deal with to be the same- corporate or otherwise. I do understand, however, that there are MANY that don't see it my way and fight fradulently to get for free what they shouldn't. It is sad, and it causes corporations to 'screw over' good people. If people didn't want something for nothing, there wouldn't BE litmus stickers. So, in closing, people suck.

My SDA also has a void sticker and it has never been wet. I assumed that was a sticker that sealed the inside of the phone and that if it was broken it would mean you had opened the phone up, which would have voided the warranty.
Anyone else have an SDA with this sticker?

I'm assuming there is a screw behind the void sticker that keeps you from opening the phone up.
