Hi,
I just purchased a VX9400 today from my local Verizon store, and I am interested in using files from my MP3 library as ringtones. What is the easiest way to do this?
I imagine I'll need a USB Data cable, so I just ordered one a minute ago on eBay. Do I need a MicroSD card?
Any and all help is much appreciated!
Thanks.

Have you checked out the software mentioned in the music as ringtones forum for LG? I'm thinking the vx9400 may not show on all software recognized, due to being so new. But I recommend trying the most common: bitpim and audacity. You can change the file around (crop 30 seconds or so) and use audacity to transfer it to your device. If it doesn't show your device try using another recent LG, like the vx8600. Best of luck

a micro SD card is the most useful thing for an mp3 playing phone you will ever have
I belive you oculd use that to transfer mp3 ringtones and you also use that to store music and stuff

Verizon Wireless does not allow for mp3's, wma's, or any other sounds file to be xfer'd to the phone and used as ringtones (unless you have a PDA). For regular handset, the only way to get ringtones is to buy them from the Get it Now store
There are some 3rd party software programs out there that are supposed to convert your songs into a usable format for your handset but I have never tried them. good luck!

You only need the sd card if you want mp3's to listen to. the mp3 players on all verizon phones will NOT let you use your mp3's as ringtones.
HOWEVER
with a USB data cable and software (as mentioned by paperstreet) such as bitpim, you can directly transfer mp3 ringtones to your ringtones folder on your phone. just go to bitpim-dot-org to find more info on how to do this.

to get mp3 ringtones onto a transflash card.you have to record a short voice recording and save them to the card.then put the card into your PC.youll see that the voice recording is in the root directory of the card. Now copy an mp3 of your choice {make sure its shortened to 30 seconds or less}into the root directory. Now copy the voice recording file name. the file name will have a bunch of numbers followed by ".qcq". Delete the recording after copying the name. Now paste that name as the name of the mp3 file. All this is doing is tricking your phone into thinking its a voice recording when in reality its rreally an mp3 file. This will not be harmful to ur phone what so ever.

Cory37. Your idea works, i used to do that all the time with my motoral razor for verizon wireless. And then set that Voice memo as a ringtone. BUT. with the LG VX8300 you are unable to set voice memos as a ring tone. And not only that, I am unable to syncronize my phone with BitPim. Any Ideas on how to get ringtones onto it?

you can email them to the phone by creating the file, attaching to an email and sending to yourmobilenumber@vzwpix.com
This is your MMS email address that is attached to the phone, this is how people can email pix to your your phone as well. Mine come in crystal clear on my lg.
