I am possibly switching from Cingular which my current phone is W-CDMA and GSM. Nextel in my area does get full service, but how is the voice quality on the iDen network compared to say GSM and CDMA? How is the quality of Nextel's network? I am not going to get the Hybrid phone because the CDMA sprint network here Sucks!
Thanks
Yeah every compalike ny has dead spots. oh well. maybe request they put up a tower or two in your area. i requested something like that and within two months later they had repaired anold tower that had good bad. since them that dead spot is no more. gotta make sure you talk to someone who speaks english though lol

In areas where the IDen network is strong, it's call quality is comparable to GSM or CDMA. However those areas are getting fewer as Sprint has largely neglected Nextel's IDen network. Enjoy it while you can, it won't be around all that much longer.

I don't think iDEN is going anywhere for a while. It is an analog network, which is a small downfall. But it's very powerful. It definately wasn't neglected.

IDen will be around till 2010, don't expect to see it for consumer use after then, every month that passes, I get more complaints from folks that say there phone doesn't work in places that it used to. Sprints response to this is telling them it is there phone to get them to upgrade. Most of the customers service didn't improve with the upgrade, but there contract did. If that isn't neglect, then it towers are being shut down on purpose, which do you think it is?

With a lot of help from roaming agreements with Alltel and Verizon, Sprint covers a significant portion of the country. Now if they could fix there customer service and not extend your contract every time you sneezed, I would switch over.
