At present I have the misfortune to have Cingular (I won't call it service - that might imply they're providing me with something satisfactory) as a carrier. I purchased a Sony-Ericsson W300i in December of 2006. I have an intermittent problem that sends the majority (seems to be ALL of my important calls!) of my callers to my voice mail. My phone rings, but when I try to answer no one is there. Cingular has been unable to fix the problem. They've replaced the phone four times, the sim card once and in desperation I even had them change my number. They still send my callers to my voice mail. Cingular has graciously offered to replace my W300i with a phone that sells for $100 less than what the W300i sells for and doesn't have anywhere near the features of the W300i. The replacement is ONLY being offered because I have they're "warranty" coverage (again I avoid using the term service).
Anyone else have a similar problem? Like the man says, "Let the buyer beware!". I'd take a long hard look before I signed with Cingular, or ordered the W300i. It's extremely frustrating to be waiting for an important call, only to have it forwarded to your voice mail. My friends all know now to just hang up when it happens and I call them back as soon as I realize no one is on the line.
I'm getting ready to file in small claims court in NY state. I think this is the only way I'll get the problem resolved. It's obvious it's beyond Cingular's ability to do so. I hope to recover the cost of the W300i, get out of my contract and recoup a percentage of my monthly bill. Then I'll be free to find a carrier that actually provides "service" to it's customers.
I've decided to have them turn off my voice mail. Cingular can't fix the problem, maybe I can eliminate it.

Well, I've never heard of that problem at all, thats seems like a VERY rare issue, they've pretty much eliminated anything on the service end, it seems like a phone issue, but like you said they replaced it, but in all honesty, I doubt you'll win the suit, they've gone above and beyond to resolve your issue, and I wouldn't be surprised if they let you out of your contract ETF free.

I would suggest 2 things
first press ##002# send on your phone this will disable any call forwarding on your phone. power cycle and place a test call to your phone
second. call customer care and ensure your Voicemail delay is set to 20 seconds . this is the ringtime (about 4 rings) that the phone will ring before the VM kicks in
from what you are describing these 2 steps should take care of it.

Thanks, but both things have already been tried.

If I could get out of the contract for free I'd be happy with that.

well, if all options have been exhausted and there seems to be a problem with the account, then they may waive the fee, I've never seen a problem like this that couldn't be fixed, its obviously a major problem if you can't get calls, so I would talk over your options as far as cancelation with a supervisor over at Cingular.

The problem is the W300i, not Cingular. I proved it today. I got a friend who has a working W300i to swap sim cards with me today and the trouble stayed with my phone. To date that seven (7) of these that have all failed in the same way. I took it into a Cingular store yesterday to have them check it, so it's not a setting. The one I have now is also forwarding some calls without even ringing, which really sucks. As far as I know the other six I had always rang the phone even though they forwarded the calls to voicemail.

Maybe it's not the W300i's. My friends phone has started failing now. Doing the same thing, only his fails more often than mine. His has started to forward almost every call to his voicemail.
