Hi. I recently bought a Samsung E105 that plays 40 chord ringtones. I also purchased the data cable for it which should arrive soon by mail. Now how do I make my own ringtones?
I see a lot of posts about WAV->MMF having PsmPlay giving the error "Wav is not convertible for this format." I am getting this too and no one has answered the solution to it. Does anyone really not know?
How do some of you convert mp3s to MMF? Can you guys also explain how to convert midi->MMF and Wav->Midi->MMF? Exact and detailed directions please. Can you modify the instructions to work for 40 chord mmfs with LED and vibration.
I am using PsmPlay 5.0.
Links of "How tos" will also be appreciated.
Thanks.

Just want to share my experience. I am not the expert here.
I have recently bought the Samsung C100 which also plays the 40 poly. If you want to create your own polyphonic, you will have to do this
1. Create using Midi files (or if you have existing WAV or other format, you may need to convert it first to Midi files).
2. There are a lot of midi files in the internet, I have downloaded closed to 400 songs in full length version
3. Next you need a software to convert midi files to 40 polyphonic or even 16 polyphonic (for usage of some older Samsung models)
4. I am using a software called Midi2Poly...just search for this over google or other search engine. It's a freeware and very small in size only 128kb. No installation needed and very user friendly. Basic...just select the midi, select covert to 40-cord and less than one second...you have the file in mmf
5. I would assume you know how to upload the mmf to your phone, so I shall skip this part.
Just my opinion on this

Do you get LED and vibration with those mmfs you made? If I took a crappy sounding midi and turned it to a 40 chord, would it sound better?
Thanks.

I am not too sure about the vibration. Basically I turn the vibration mode off. I always have the feeling that the vibration is independent to the mmf...but very honest...I don't know...I can check it out later (not having the phone now)
Crappy sound midi will definitely not produce good 40 chord. I have midi files which have more than 12 intrument listed and I have also midi files with basically a single instrument (piano) being played.
It doesn't mean more instrument in the music (midi) will yield good 40 chord. Some music are mean to be played with a few instrument while some heavy bass music need more instrument (e.g. synth lead, percussion, guitar, piano, bass etc)
Again, I am not able to answer your question in a correct manner because I am not sure what do you mean exactly with crappy midi and how do you get the midi at the first place. Some converters are "crap". They are not able to convert WAV or other format to Midi ideally and make the Midi sounds awful.....thus this does not make good poly.

OK..OK...I will try my best to help but no assurance here because I am a Nokia user, Samsung is just my spare handset which I don't use it very often.
You basically only need EasyGPRS. I connect the handset to my PC via an external IRD cable (this is also the cable that I used to connect my Nokia to the PC). In the EasyGPRS, you need to select the connection via IRD ...by default it was set to cable. Unless you purchase a Samsung cable, otherwise you need to select the IRD connection manually.
Another thing to be alerted is the COM port within your PC. Though the IRD cable is connected via USB port, it virtually create a "virtual" COM port ...in my case is COM5. So you need to tell the EasyGPRS which COM port the Infra red cable is connected to.
Once your PC or the EasyGPRS can detect the handset, then the rest is easy. The EasyGPRS is very user friendly...just select ringtone, wallpaper or games etc. The crucial thing is to have the detection.
If you have an internal Infrared port in your PC (e.g. laptop), then everything is a piece of cake...but you still have to select the IRD connection manually in the Easy GPRS programme.
Hope the above is of somewhat helpful...send me email at johnsontys@hotmail.com if you still have difficulty.
By the way I am using EasyGPRS version 2.16.

detonate,
1. the samsung e105 can only download a max of 40000 bytes per ringtone. this is from personal experience. i haven't been able to download anything longer using easy gprs v2.1.5
2. to convert wav to mmf. first the wav has to be converted to 8 khz 16 bit monotone. then psmplay 5.0 can convert to mmf. use smaf 16 chord (ezweb) to save to mmf format. note: vibrate and led doesn't work with wav.
3. mp3s. convert to wav, then convert to 8 khz 16 bit monotone. note: with the samsung's limitation of only 40kbs. it roughly equates to 10-13 seconds. if you convert to 4 khz, it'll give you more time but then the quality really gets bad...
4. if you want to use vibrate and led feature for midis. make sure to choose the appropriate channel to follow the music. for vibrate i usually choose the channel with the drum beat and the led i choose the channel with the main melody.
5. i use midradio by yamaha to preview what it'll sound like on my phone. the psmplay 5.0 is very accurate. the yamaha midradio plays the mmf files almost exactly how it'll come out on your phone....
hope this helps...

Sorry for all these questions. How do I know which channel belongs to which? And How come when I play a mmf on my phone theres different LED colors changing to the music? How do I do that?
Is it possible to add vibrate and LED to a mmf file or do I have to change it back to midi? If so, how? Thanks.
