Okay, so I am still researching this a little bit. From what I have learned, you can text from a cell phone to a computer. There is even a website for that as well; Is that right? If I send a text message to my friend using Verizon via lets say my AOL address and my email client, can recieve my text message and even reply? Also, is SMS different than when someone says "text messaging" or is "text messaging" the same as "SMS"

Also, if thats possible in general, can I do that with other wireless providers as well? Hope I didn't make this sound confusing.

Thanks

Yes you can text to a computer, and they can email to you. Your phone's email address is (your mobile phone number)@vtext.com.

When you start to send a text to an email you will need to change the format so your phone doesn't just put in numbers. You can press a button, usually the star key (*) and it will change the 123 format (your phone should display what format you are typing in somewhere on the screen) and as you press the * it will change from 123 to abc, ABC, etc.

Yes you can send a text from www.vtext.com to any Verizon customer for free. It will cost them one standard text, or whatever they have covered.

You can send free pix (as well as free pix storage) at www.vzwpix.com. This is your pixplace account. Every camera phone account at Verizon Wireless has one. It only cost your standard pix rates to send pix from your phone to your pixplace account. If you have a text package it is probably covered, but will cost you an out of network text.

SMS is the same as texting (short messaging service), MMS is multimedia messaging.

I'm not sure if other carriers have free texting sites.

Alright, so I can text from the computer However, it sounds like I can only text with my phone's email address and not my AOL address. Is that correct?

Thanks

If you have mobile web, you could probably use your AOL address to send emails. Otherwise, there's no way to connect with the internet so no AOL email.

If you were to pull up Mobile Web, go to the AOL website, log into AOL.com under your sign on name and write an email with your phone then I hope you have a qwerty keyboard. That would take forever if you're doing it t-9 or otherwise.
and that's not a text, it wouldn't even count as a text, it would just cost minutes while your phone stays logged in. That is emailing if there is an address involved, not texting. Your message will sit in the receiver's inbox until they check it.

Now, what you CAN do more quickly is log into AIM with your AOL login and send IMs. This isn't an email and has no email address involved, just your signon name. Using Instant Messaging, either sending or receiving, counts as one text per message. You should switch to the unlimited texting plans* if you do this. it adds up quick. In this case you can only talk to those who are signed in at the same time you are.

AIM can be accessed through Get It Now which is probably built into your phone depending on how old it is. Download by finding the "Get It Now" category in your menu, go to "tools on the go" or something like it, then "get new app", then "business tools" or something like it. Mobile IM should be there. You can choose to login with AOL, MSN, or Yahoo.
Just put in your login name and password and you're IMing with your buds.

*Now if you need more texting allowance, there are the America's Choice Select plans that include unlimited texting to anyone in America and Puerto Rico, regardless of their carrier. This includes pix, flix, text, IMs, email. Whatever you can throw at them, it's covered.

I hope this helps!
