Well there will be no need for that! Let's not get too hasty! You can activate a Verizon phone that you buy off ebay, providing that it's not very old and is E911 capable for starters.
But I caution you to try and stick with phones that already have the ESN listed on the auction (or write to the seller and ask). You can call into VZW and ask a representative to check this electronic serial number in the system and we can find out if this is on the lost or stolen list BEFORE you buy it.
If you bring us a phone that is on this stolen list, we will refuse to activate it. You may want to see if any trusted friends have an old phone they are lookiing to get rid of too. This usually cuts down on your chances for fraud.
And when you're speaking with a representative, why don't you ask what your upgrade options are now? We may have an early or annual upgrade you can take advantage of, depending on your price plan and how long ago you upgraded to the phone you have now. Plus there's always the option of buying a phone at full price. Since breaking a contract is $175, we can set you up nicely with a phone @ full retail price for about that much anyway and that way you can stick with VZW.
Happy phone hunting! Sorry about your mishap!

Just call with the phone in hand, and give us that esn number found on the back of the phone, and we will activate it for you. It's nothing out of the ordinary, people do it all the time.
Just remember, Verizon phone, nothing older than from 2004 probably, and check that number before buying.

I just have a quick question and I think I already know the answer. Is the blackberry pearl ever coming to Verizon?

I found a blackberry phone on the train and i'm trying to get activated it.
First I contacted the owner and left numorous messages with his secretary, but they never call back. I called the owner secretary and they said to keep the phone. I later contacted verizon to activate the phone, since I have a an account and was unable to activate the phone because they said it was on the lost and stolen list. That I would to have the owner of the phone and have him or her take it off.
What should I do?
Please helppp
