I want to set my mp3's as ringtones. I was told that AT&T blocked the feature and unlocking it or flashing it or something would allow me to do so. Is that true? I can't do the method listed here because I don't pay for data access. Is there any way for me to put my mp3's as ringtones without paying for internet access? Thanks for any help.

Have you tried the procedure at samsung's FAQs.
Also, I'm a cing/att customer, and don't pay for any special media package, but by default you CAN utilize the MediaNet at a flat 0.01/kB Through the ATT "Store" I just bought and downloaded one ringtone, and I paid $2.50 for the tone, and probably another 1.50 in data transfer fees / "taxes." It sends a txtmsg to your phone, with a link to the finalized webpage to pay for the RT and dwnld it. Worked for me.

This is the samsung FAQ link.
p.s. being a newbie, and not knowing why the url is getting "edited" out, just replace it with tinyurl dot com.

Hello there. I believe I can help answer your questions.

First of all, the feature to add MP3's as ringtones is in fact, not blocked. So flashing it would give you nothing extra in terms of MP3 ringtones. There is, however, a lock on having an MP3 ringtone longer than 30 seconds. You can download a free program on your PC to cut down the ringtone to 30 seconds or less.

Yes. If you are using a laptop that has Bluetooth capability, you can pair your laptop and SGH-A707 via Bluetooth, and execute a file transfer. If you do not have Bluetooth on a laptop, you can buy a Blueooth USB Adapter and plug it up to your desktop or laptop.
I do this all the time with my own homemade ringtones. If you want more information on sending files through Bluetooth, I can write up an in-depth tutorial. Also, if you have any other questions about the Samsung SGH-A707, let me know.

Yes, ringtones need to be 30 seconds or less, and if you have the new AT&T SYNC, then they also must be less than 300kb.

I would like to convert some of my mp3's to ringtones, when I try to use mp3 as ringtone it says "to large to set as a ringtone", someone posted that there was free software that could be downloaded to reduce a mp3 to 30 seconds, any help finding this software would be appreciated. THANKS!

yes file size is most important. it must be below 300kb. remember that. decreasing quality will help do this and keep the length up.

I was able to set my ringtone to MP3s that were 600kb and smaller but when I uploaded some songs recently I coudln't do that anymore (wtf) and I'm limited to 300kb now . My current ringtone is larger than 300kb and when I try to set the ringtone to the current one it tells me it's too large LOL. I'm still looking for a way to debrand this mofo.
