What's the cheapest way to add data (Internet connection) to a T-Mobile account. I am currently a prepaid customer but am looking at getting into a monthly contract that also includes data.

How much data do you need? Tzones is the cheapest, but its all mobile internet only. If you go with a pda/bb/sk, you get full internet, but it also costs more than the basic tzones service. I think this is how the pricing breaks out.

Tzones- 5.99
BB/sk - 19.99 with voice plan(29.99 without)
PDA- 29.99 with voice plan

Not much data. I would probably be checking my Gmail account once a day and respond to important emails (one or two a day). Also, if I go for TZone, which are some of the good phone models that support it?

If all you need to do with it is chekc your GMail account then go for a regular phone (not a Sidekick, Blackberry or PDA) and get the 5.99/mo T-Zones add on.

All of T-Mobile's current phones that we sell are T-Zones equipt.

If this is your concern, then don't even worry about it, and focus on other features of the phone you buy, like camera, size, look, etc. GMail can be accessed with the 5.99 feature from any T-Mobile phone.

Do NOT let a sales rep talk you into buying a more expensive device (BB, SK, PDA) to "check your e-mail." They will try to do this.

Tzones sounds like it would be enough for you. I personally do enjoy a sidekick though because of the full keyboard and access to any web site, not just mobile ones. Once again though, based on what you said, tzones should be enough, but it is up to you.

i'm about to get a t-mobile mda (htc wizard). i want to be able to use internet on it. just to browse websites, not to download anything. would i be be ok with just the 5.99 plan? i've been doing a lot of research on getting internet to work on it without having to pay anything, or at least pay very little. thanks for any help.

The 5.99 plan is not supposed to work with windows mobile phones, but people seem to find ways to get it to work. You need to use tmobile total internet on the mda.
