I bought a Cingular branded Moto V540 off of ebay to use on my Cingular account. When I put my SIM in it, it asks for a subsidy password. Will Cingular help me, or do I have to get the phone unlocked? Is this happening because it's seeing that it is on AT&T and it wants to see a Cingular network?

I fixed your phone number icon_smile.gif going to call it now

I guess it's easier just to unlock it myself, don't have enough time to wait to get connected to an operator and then get transferred to someone that can actually do the unlock for me.

I have a question about the procedure to unlock the phone. I got a code from Cingular/ATT. The instructions say to put another carrier's sim card in there. Is that strictly necessary? Since the Cingular Sim card gets the enter subsidy code message, is that good enough to put in the unlock code? Everyone that would trust me with their sim card is a cingular customer.

I tried a sim out of a prepaid phone and had no joy. I'm not sure if that was because my battery was low or not.

the directions you recieved assume you want to use the phone with a different carrier (technically you are it was an older att (blue) phone) your new sim starts with 8901 the old one starts with 8931 (sim prefix). just put in the new sim you have now
