My two-year contract is about to end and I am planning on purchasing a new phone. I was wondering if anyone has heard if Verizon has any new phones they are about to release so I know if I should wait a little while or just go ahead and get a new one.
I have heard about the possibility of a new LG Chocolate (the VX8550), but my main interest is in the area of smartphones with WiFi (the XV6700 out now with 802.11b is not acceptable). I'm thinking there should be at least one like that to compete with the iPhone, but I haven't been able to find anything.

there are actually a few that will e release within 60-90 days (supposedly). UT starcom is currently working on an XV6700 successor (XV68xx?) that's currently being tested, as well as samsung's replacement for the i730 (wifi) & i830. also expecting a new treo both palm & windows os, but less sure of the timeline on those.

So why is none of this passed on to the consumer? You would think with a huge company like Verizon they would have something to compete with the new IPhone?????? As a customer of Verizon for over 6 years I feel the company is ALL TALK and NO ACTION -- the products they sell us at inflated prices us are crapola!!!!!!

I phone doesn't allow you to
remove battery
edit word, excel documents,
allows 3rd party software or ringtones,
have expandable memory
have gps
have a high speed data network
have buttons to type your txt msgs or e mail without touching screen
LG 9400
Costs less than 1/3 of i phone price
supports memory cards up to 4gb
is VZ navigator enabled to get turn by turn gps
has a removable battery
operates of EVDO high speed data network
Allows you to get up to 10 e mail address synced to your phone
offers LIVE TV in select areas.
iphone really doesn't even compare to a non pda phone that VZW offers. Much less an old pda that VZW offers.

no plans from what I've seen coming to vzw. Try the bb 8830. Very similar without the camera.

Check engadgetmobile.com, they have a post about the rumors for August release of devices: Moto RIZR V6TV, Moto Q9m, XV6800, & Samsung SCH-i760. All would be nice additions (we hope). Lets also hope the screenshot isn't a fake.

Verizon was actually the first carrier approached by Apple for the iPhone, but the deal wasn't favorable for VZW so they passed. Their CEO, or some other big wig, did state recently that Verizon was working on a competitor for the iPhone. No idea when it will be ready or who is making it.
