I'm thinking about getting a motorola q. Is there any mandatory data package needed for the phone or can I just switch my regular plan to it without any costs?

You don't have to buy an addtl data pack but will be on a pay as you go data pack, if you do use the data. Unlmtd data is $44.99, and for and addtl $15 you can tether the Q to use it as a wireless modem/

Don't buy that phone! You will regret it. The menus are horrible, it's sluggish, repeatly resets itself for no reason. It's no good. If you have to have a phone like that, for 200.00 more I would reccommend a Treo with the windows OS in it

I have used the Motorola Q for exactly 1 year and although it is my first Smart phone I would strongly warn everyone to NOT purchase this phone. It may seem affordable but I would not use this phone if it were free. The list of issues includes but is not limited to the following:
>Mobile Windows version is unique to the Q (not compatible with many apps)
>OS is flakey (Lag, Reboots, No response at times)
>Bluetooth drains power so fast it’s not worth using
>System messages interfere with the function of the phone (If you lock your phone while charging and charge it to full, the "battery full" displays until you unlock and acknowledge the message)
>Original battery is so poor they offered $75 extended batteries at $20 to appease customers(Extended batteries are so big the Q does not fit properly in the Q's case)
>Verizon recommend turning off many functions to increase the life of the battery (So why have the functions?)
>Playing music and then trying to answer the phone is impossible
Although the Q at times work okay, it cause way more problems than I would every expect from a Smart Phone. Since I have been a loyal Verizon customer for the past 5 years, now after 1 year with this sub par phone I am able to receive an early upgrade on a new phone.(They will let me buy a phone at the same discount everyone gets that walks into Verizon) I am going to get another Smart phone. Any suggestions?
