ok sorry bout that.
what you have to do is, first set the phone settings to VX8500,
next click on view-view filesystem.
click on the new icon on the left side of the screen named "filesystem" then click on the addition sign on the folder. it should say retrieving for a little and should show alot of folders. These are the data folders of the phone. Next click on
Brew-Mod-10889-ringtones. from there all you have to do is drag and drop the mp3 file you want into the right hand side of the screen which is blank usually.
as for the wallpaper i still dont know how to do that, it says it has been blocked by the service provider when you try to do it this way also.

I figured out how to get pics and wallpaper on and off the phone! I made a mistake in my last post, you are supposed to set bitpim to 8700.
for wallpaper and stuff do the same thing you did to put ringtones on the phone but this time go to the folder 10888, that contains all the pictures on the phone. from there drag and drop a 240x274 size picture for background our you can transfer any picture. you can also download pictures from the phone to your computer by right clicking on the filename and clicking on save. This doesnt work for all pictures and im not sure why but i will keep looking to find out. hope these things helped!

I am trying to put a 20 second mp3 as a ringtone the way gugmi01 said.
first problem i have is that it wont recognize phone as 8300 or 8500 so i set it to other phone or w/e. then got into the brew/mod/10889/ringtones files and tried to drag mp3 into that window and get the error.
This isnt all of the error becuase i couldnt post it all but if anyone has any idea let me know.
BitPim version: 1.0.0-official

I've tried the filesystem method, and I just get long streams of errors when I do it.
I've been able to email myself ringtones, but I don't relish paying .25 everytime I want to do that.

well, actually you did well, it works! I set it to 8700 manually, and drag the files there. It works for .wav's too, haven't tried Midi or qfm? yet. The only thing is I do have to reboot my phone after they transfer to get them to show up. That's not a big issue though. I haven't tried with wallpapers or anything else yet.

QUESTION. I got this far:
"what you have to do is, first set the phone settings to VX8500, next click on view-view filesystem. click on the new icon on the left side of the screen named "filesystem" then click on the addition sign on the folder. it should say retrieving for a little and should show alot of folders. These are the data folders of the phone. Next click on Brew-Mod-10889-ringtones"
Now how do I get the ringtones into the new filesystem's area I just discovered? I cant drag and drop the tones into the system folder for my new phone because the ringtone folder closes when I go to retrieve them. I am confused about getting the ringtones into the new phones file? HELP!
