this is what i do for my ringtones.but you do have to have text messaging.
i record whatever song i want from the radio and save it in my sounds.
then i go to my sounds folder and send it to me in a text message. then there is an option to save as ringtone.thats what i do.
kinda takes a little bit of time.but i thinks its worth it

I've read though all this. For some reason nothing I do will all bitpim to detect my phone, no changes in com ports, which USB port its plugged into, nor changing the phone's model.
It is connected to my PC and its being detected by it (its under My computer and in the v cast player that comes with the phone)
Suggestions?

Just wanted to mention that a test release version of Bitpim is out now that adds support for the LG vx8550. I just ordered my phone so i haven't tried it, but anyone having trouble may want to check it out.

Thanks for this - just wish I'd learned how to do this before downloading a bunch of new ringtones 'cause I can't get BitPim to work! Anyway, thanks!

so is there a way to text yourself more than one ringtone? I texted myself one but when i tried to put another one in, it said that there was an error. . .does anyone else have this problem or know how to troubleshoot it?

I just sent myself four ringtones I had downloaded from my 8500 via Bitpim onto my computer and saved, put them in the MY SOUNDS folder on an SD card, put the card into the 8550, went to MY SOUNDS and then sent each of them from the 8550 to the 8550 via text message. it worked great! Now if I could just get my old Samsung 950 to connect via BitPim there are some ringtones on it I can't find anywhere anymore.
