gugmi01, Changing the setting to 8700 worked like a champ for the Ringtones. Thank you for the great tip.

I was able to put custom mp3 ringtones on my phone with the given tutorial. However, i tried doing it today and its giving me this error:

"Access to the file/directory has been blocked on this phone by the phone provider"

Has anyone else seen this error recently? and if so let me know how to fix it if it's possible!

Thanks!

I'm also getting the same error on my choclate phone while getting connected to Bitpim.

"Access to the file/directory has been blocked on this phone by the phone provider"

Could you please tell me how you fixed it?

Thanks,

Try using the new test/beta version of BitPim. Allows access to the BREW directory.

gotta bring this post back from the dead.
hey guys and gals, i just bought the vx 8550
i have read the 4 pages here and i just bought the verizon usb cable. i didn't realize it came with software in the package. my laptop has a broken cd drive so i can't download the software from verizon.
can i still set up ringtones with this cable?
i did get it to sync with my computer so i can add music to the phone, but i really need some ringtones.

thanks in advance and if you need more info let me know.

Hey everyone,

I got a new LG Chocolate (LGVX8550) yesterday (12/24) because I was looking for a cheap and slick slider phone that would use my own custom ringtones. After installing all the software from the CD I was shocked to find there was no written method anywhere in the manual or anywhere else in regards to doing this, so I did a Google search and came across this thread.

I downloaded BitPim and after a few attempts, it finally recognized the phone and basically set up its profile. It recognized it as an 8550 and everything, too. I snooped around the tabs a bit and came to see all the folders (videos, music, etc.) and saw one of them called "Ringers." I came to found out this was the folder I was to put in my custom ringtones, and sure enough, they appeared in the phone when I tried to select one. I even found the images folder and was easily able to move my own images there too.

I'm kind of spooked by how easy it was once the phone sync'd up with BitMip. I was just curious as to whether or not I was risking violating the service contract or anything? I doubt it, but just want to be sure before I go adding more ringtones and pictures this way.

I actually like BitPim a lot more than the Verizon software (go figure) and I plan on using it from now on. It's not as easy to put things on as I had hoped before I had gotten the phone, but what can you expect these days. I was going to make sure I'd fight as hard as I can before I gave in to paying for a ringtone for a song I already legally own.

Anyways, I was just hoping to share my experience and hopefully get a confirmation about the service contract question. I never even once got a "service blocked by provider" error or anything and it seemed like I didn't have to go through as much a hassle.

I hope I didn't upset anyone for possibly bumping an old thread, but I figured that I had good reasoning for this post.

Thanks!
