I've worked in the wireless business for many years. I really don't feel good about the scammy way carriers treat their subscribers. There is a remedy however - call customer care! It costs wireless carriers on average $18 per call so if enough people call - it will get their attention. You don't want to call more than once or twice however as there have been instances of carriers cutting off customers for being too expensive. If however 1 million subscribers called once each to complain, we'd probably all get a better deal.

Or better yet, save the carrier the money so they can actually make the difference and mail in the complaints to corporate.

If someone could point me in the direction to enable the usb transfers I would be greatful. I was going to get Motorola phone tools for my razr v3m then I noticed a note:
"Note: If you are a Verizon customer, all multimedia and Internet connection features in this software will be disabled due to carrier request. Please contact your service provider for further information. "
Mark Venture's site provides the workaround:
Go to link, mark dot cdmaforums dot com
(I have not posted enough to be allowed to post complete URL's yet it seems
Check the link on the left for "V3c/V3M Info"
Used the info/download for my v325i, and worked like a champ. Just keep in mind that it will void any kind of warranty that might still apply - no issue for me since the v325i is over 1 year old, and eBay has them dirt cheap.

Ah yes, workarounds are nice, except for that whole voiding the warranty thing. Put me down on the side of the people who are holding Verizon's feet to the fire to re-enable the features that WE PAID FOR!
Here's an e-mail address for a person I have been corresponding with, I urge you all to drop her a line:
wfmweirt "at" HQ "dot" VerizonWireless "dot" com
I'm also filing complaints with the FCC and the California Public Utilities Commission.

you can also downlad directly to your smartcard in the phone, providing you have addd one. Put it in the adapter (it is likely a micro card) and then into the puter and you can drag and drop from there. The verizon tech told me I can do this. He said that is one of the easiest ways to get stuff on there. Makes sense.

You do realize that their costs are passed onto us right? It is a fine line we walk here. I would suggest that you write an email or better yet, snailmail in a act of protest. That does not generate a fee that is then a reason to raise our already high enough fees.

What about the software verizon uses in their store to transfer pics, ringtones, and other info to your new phone. Anybody got any info on that? Or are they using some funky hardware too?

Okay, it has been two years since I test drove a Verizon-telecom, Motorola RAZR but then canceled the contract (on day 13, with full refund) after I figured out Verizon had disabled so many of the features I wanted to use on that phone.
I will be getting a new phone soon, and would consider verizon once again.
Question. Has anything changed since 2007? Is Verizon still placing roadblocks in the way of using the full manufacturer mobile phone functionality?
