Hi, I recently bought a Nokia 5300 to use on T-Mobile's service. It is unlocked (courtesy of a friend) and I frequently travel in an area where there are no T-Mobile towers, however, there are Cingular towers. The sales rep PROMISED me that my phone would be able to use the Cingular towers in that area. My phone can find the towers in manual mode, but when I tell it to connect, it says it can't do it & flashes a stop sign at me.
I'm figuring this is some kind of software block on the phone itself? I called customer service & they said it should be able to do it, as long as there were none of their (t-mobile's) towers around, and there aren't. Is there a way to go into my phone & reconfigure it so I can use those towers?
I love this phone, but I need the coverage more than I love the phone. I still have a couple of days left to get out of my contract, so I'd like to try to fix this fast if I can.
Thanks to anyone with any ideas!

If the phone isn't switching to those towers then T-mobile doesn't have roaming agreements there. Since the phone is unlocked you may want to purchase a prepaid cingular sim to use in that area.

Thank you. That's what I was afraid of. They keep telling me that they do have an agreement, but I think you're right.
