This is what worked for me:
D/L the latest BitPim test build.7/17/07
Once installed, connect your phone and open BitPim.
It should automatically recognize your vx8550.
Then update phone to computer. Top left icon.
Then your photos will be under media>images
All your have to do is save them onto your computer.

Really, i didnt knwo there was an update for bitpim. Your saying that this new update can recognize the 8550 as the 8550 and not another phone? could you post the link of where i can download it from? thanks!

Sorry, because I am a new member it wont let me post a links.
But if you goto the BitPim page>under where it says DOWNLOADS>there is a link for all downloads at sourceforge>click on that>then you are on the sourceforge BitPim page>look for the 1.0.1.20070717 test release>released on 7/17/07>download the exe
Yes it will recognize the vx8550>you do not need to change phone versions anymore>hope this helps>like I said it worked perfectly for me

HI:
I finally figured out how to download photos from the LG VX-8550, in BitPim 1.0.5, with Windows Vista. With the phone connected by cable. From the left menu bar click on "file system". Then click on "brew". Open the "mod" folder. Double click on file "10888". This will give you a list of "jpg" files. Save the files you want to view/print by single clicking on the file. Then right click on the file, and click on "save". You will get a save tab. This tab will allow you to change the file name. Then click on "save" This will save the file to the "pictures" tab in Windows Vista. From there the file can be touched-up/viewed/saved/printed. Hope this helps.
NB
P.S. If you double click on the file(s), you will get a hex dump. Not much good for wiewing.

Another really simple way to veiw your pics on your puter without any downloads or messing around in the phone's files system is to simply move the pictures onto a microSD card while the card is in the phone. Many phones let you move them all at once and others make you move them one by one. But then you can just either put the phone into USB mass storage mode and connect it to the comp using a USB cable, or put the card into a card adaptor/reader. A removible disk window will pop up with all your pics in the My Pix folder. Save them to you computer by opening a new folder in My Pictures (under My Documents) and the just click on the ones you want, drag them and drop them into your newly created folder.
