Hi Everyone - This is my first post, and I hope it's not something that's been gone over a million times before, but stick with me!
I work in a busy nightclub, and we get a lot of lost property. Most is reclaimed by its' owner, but if it's not we get the pick of it after it's been with us for three months.
I have just acquired an unclaimed Sony Ericsson w850i by just such means.
The phone charges, and turns on but is protected by a Phone Lock code.
Even if this is removed, there is still no guarantee the phone hasn't been network-barred, so I don't want to spend a fortune doing it to end up with a phone that is ultimately useless anyway.
Is there any way to remove this, or am I just as well chucking the thing in the bin and sticking with my trusty Nokia 6230? The phone is branded to the same operator I'm with (02 UK). I have to admit I like the look and features of the phone compaired to my ancient brick, but is it really worth the hassle of removing the phone code to find it's network blocked anyway?
All replies & suggestions very gratefully recieved!
Ewan.

If its branded the same the same network as yours, then it can't be locked to any other network. It can be unlocked for all networks, but not stuck to a different one.
As far as the phone lock goes . you can try the default 0000 but if that's changed then the only other recourse you have is to go into the software of the phone. Its a fairly easy thing to do, you'll need to buy a cable and get a credit from a company like davinci or wontanserver. Neither one is very expensive.

Thanks - I'll look into that.
Tried 0000 to no avail - Probably would have to get a cable etc. I'm sure eBay would be my best bet!
To clarify what I meant by Network Barred, I meant blacklisted. I don't know if it's the same in the states, but in the UK if you report your phone as lost or stolen to your network, they add it to a central blacklist register shared across all networks which means that IMEI will never be able to register to a network again to prevent stolen phones being used.
My point is, I don't really want to spend an awful lot to find this is the case anyway!
Thanks for the reply,
Ewan

ah, I see what you meant about network barred. If that's the case there are ways to change the IMEI of the device, but that's illegal here in the states, I'm not sure about the UK.

Hi again Celtic Dragon -
Fortunately found my housemate also has a Sony Ericsson phone, so I've tonight used her USB lead to use WotanServer and re-flash the phone with the exact same firmware, which has removed the phone lock, and I now have a fully working w850i.
Thanks for the replies- Couldn't have done it without you!
