We have a family talk plan with cingular (69.99 - 700 rollover min). We opened the plan in Dec 2005 on 1 yr contract and we already had our own phones. We did not buy a phone with our new plan nor did we receve a free phone from Cingular. Now we want to upgrade to the Palm 750 and the 8525? We can't do it on line (in our cingular account) b/c it keeps giving us the no commitment price. We looked at other deals online and they all require a 2 yr. commitment (which we don't mind) and a 6 month PDA or Data rate plan in order to get the rebate. My question is do I really have to keep the PDA or data rate plan for 6 months or can I cancle it after I receive the rebate in 10 to 12 weeks?

yes you do , due to the fact that those "special deal" companies get pid for the amount of time you have those features on there if you remove them they will vod the rebate and usualy chage you full cost for the phone , READ ALL THE FINE PRINT

So you're saying that if I get the rebate with ATT which requires a 2yr commit and a pda or data rate plan they will bill me the full amt. of the phone if i cancel the feature after I get my rebate? The FINE PRINT only states that the required features need to be in place at the time the rebate is PROCESSED. So I figure after they "process" it its a done deal. Are they going to police my account for 6 months to see if I cancel a feature prematurely? I'm talking about ATT not the other inexpensive dealers. What do you think? has anyone done this before?

Okay, did I hit a nerve? Its interesting that no one cares to respond to this question. So, the silence on this issue tells me that one CAN, in fact cancel the "required" feature after receiving the rebate. b/c the FINE PRINT only states that the feature must be in place at the time the rebate is processed. I love reading fine print.

i guess the boggeling question is why would you spend the money to get a pda and NOT have a pda internet plan ?

didnt hit a nerve. didnt want to hijack another persons conversation.
you are reading it correctly. as long as there is no contract associated with said plan ( some business data plans have data contracts) wait until yoiu gave the rebate then stop the data plan

I would assume that he would disable the data connection and go wifi only.but I never said that.

What's the point of data unless it's 3G? I wouldn't have data either if that were the case.

the point is relative. if you need it and are willing to pay for it the point is moot. the OP just wanted to know if he HAD to pay for it after the rebate was processed
if you have stable and free hotspot(s) where and when you need them why bother paying for a data connection? (if I'm following the OP correctly)
