Not towers, and not hot air balloons. But they were putting repeaters in essentially weather balloons. It would take 2-3 to cover one of the Dakotas. They would track the balloon, when it came down, collect it and send it up again. They would just float along providing service. Good for coverage of very remote regions.

A lot of studies would have to be done. Including environmental impact, the risks of possibly hitting the balloons with aircraft, the possibility of balloons coming down onto homes. The cost to run the system, how long the balloons would last, how many carriers can be placed on the balloons and things of that nature. I don't think it is a bad idea, but a lot needs to be learned before it could be implemented.

The power output on satelite phones is HUGE. I'm cool with it, but give me a headset of some kind.

I have sprint and it is pretty good in cities and roads
If you want covarge on any major road than sprint is your choice. I live in a non urban area but my city is quickly growing. Alltel would be the best choice but my mom areadly got sprint.(it was a suprises). But if you are going to not stick with sprint do it in the 30 day period. The termination fee is horrible!

The termination fee is fairly standard, and Sprint offers a longer check period then most companies. Now Centennial Wireless's ETF is horrible. $250 per phone + one month worth of service, as you HAVE to give them 30's notice of cancellation, in writing, in the store. So much for "Relax" or "Free, free, free, free."
